Was Magic Kingdom’s parking and transportation system a mistake?

Was it a mistake to require additional transportation from the Magic Kingdoms parking lot?

Simple question. Was the idea of forcing you to either take a ferry or monorail to get to the gates of Magic Kingdom a mistake? We understand the novelty of watching the castle appear in view from taking the ferry or the fun of the monorail. But I often question if it’s worth the extra time, upkeep on vehicles and cost to pay cast members to operate them.

After getting stuck in a rainstorm tonight, getting soaking wet and knowing we had to pack into a monorail or slow moving ferry just to get to the parking lot. I would have killed for a standard Epcot style situation. Just curious if everyone else feels it’s as cumbersome as I do!

It was an odd set up and truth be told, not really an enjoyable one at days end with two very tired and cranky kids.

Yet, all things being equal, its not something I've really thought about much since.

are you really concerned about what Disney pays out? as a guest what do you care?

Now if you have a substantial financial stake in the operations then of course that's understandable; but I have a feeling you don't have

here's the deal: going in I love it...........leaving, however I hate it to a greater extent than I love the arrival.........sheer frustration and chaos come ending of the night time show.

Overall it hurts more than helps

They make up quite a bit in charging premiums for monorail resorts.

yes, big time.

But those resort line hotels and the resort line itself aren't really at the heart of the issue. The real issue is dealing with ferrying guests at a snail's pace due to docking, loading and unloading, limited boats in circulation and actual boating knots across the lake and a wholly unreliable monorail sysytem due to too few monorails in circulation from MK to TTC and a brreak down threat at any given time. Monorail breakdowns and delays should be on every guest's minds when planning a day as it happens with such frequency

the system can not handle, with efficiency, a park day with over 20k guests. So imagine 55k on average.

I give the system a D- or F

I think it’s what makes it feel so special, when I was a kid it was an amazing experience. Even now when I bring first timers we make it part of the experience. I wish they had done this with Epcot as well in a way, they kinda did it with the IG entrance and crescent lake. Going a step further I wish they had not gone the urban sprawl route and had connected all the parks and resorts with waterways and people movers to make it easier to get around and have the parking lots out of view, I guess kinda what walt originally envisioned.

Without that separation there would have been no monorail or scenic ferry rides watching the castle getting closer and closer. Either one of those are attractions that are missed by all but those in the monorail hotels. Some have never experienced it and got dropped off in a smelly, sweaty bus at the door step. Whoopee! The people that need to rush through life, miss a lot more then they realize.

If the parking lot was next to MK how would that change the fact that in a rain storm you are still going to get wet. It might seem like a waste of time. I see it to be more fun then the not doing it. It isn't always raining. The tram ride, the ferry or monorail are all part of the show. Without it the place becomes any old 6 flags instead of what defined WDW's Magic Kingdom.
