News Walt Disney World's iconic Twilight Zone Tower of Terror billboard to be permanently removed

Sadly the attitude towards the ToT appears to be that as long as it goes up and down and people scream - everything is OK.

Like the GMR should have, ToT should be having continual updates to keep the effects working and add new versions and special edition profiles.
For those who haven't, I suggest checking out the updates to the tower at WDSP. They got the inferior DCA version, but have done a really fantastic job introducing a new storyline and new effects in the past few years that keep the Twilight Zone theme but have really improved the attraction and helped keep it fresh.

Actually, I had a thought about this. I wonder if Disney feels like eye time on this billboard is so low now, the cost to keep it up and running isn’t worth it. Only one person per vehicle on the road will keep their eyes looking out the the window long enough for it to be worth it. The rest have there heads buried in their phones. 🤩😀🤣

I just don't get why people are more upset at this than the state of the actual attraction is in. Especially the fact the hallway scene window projection has been in greyscale and the audio system has been completely wonky for a full year at this point. I am still not over this and I will not let Disney maintenance live this down.

It's just so weird.

Right across the park, ROTR's problems have been fixed across days or sometimes months.
For example, the probe droid stopped working Nov 2021. Fixed around May 2022, so about 6 months of downtime.
Other minor-ish effects like Kylo drop-down post-bridge and ceiling lightsaber is fixed the following day or in a couple days.

It's shocking how different rides are treated over time. I guess since ROTR is the flashiest new ride in the park, majority of its effects must be kept working (excemption being the cannons..).

TOT deserves better, in a park that overall deserves better.

This.....is rubbish..... can't wait for all the die hards to swoop in and defend disney by telling us how trivial this sign is and how it has zero impact on ones vacation so why should anyone care.

Stuff like this made disney unique and god there on a record pace to be as plain and normal as possible.

I hope not. But you weren't making a fair comparison.
To be fair, you were making an unrealistic assumption.

Nobody at Disney is running down and assessing the quantity and quality of complaints about this bilboard and seeing how that stacks up against complaints about other things around the resort to justify dismissing them - they generally dismiss all complaints pretty equally. Their only real regard is toward what they were already planning to do.

Which is why the "Save Toad" campaign made no difference, why it's nonsense to suggest Splash Mountain is being transformed due to some push from the Twitterati, and why the counter-petition devised to "save" Splash Mountain, which reportedly had many more signatures, also made no difference. Because Disney, for the most part, does what they've already determined will suit them best.

Disney does keep some tabs on boards like this, but the idea that anyone's keeping score about how much we complain about this relative to theoretical future projects is silly. They already operate from the perspective that "people will complain about anything", so they just do whatever they want. As they have for decades. This Billboard isn't moving that needle.

Everything in these parks should be repaired, or replaced almost as soon as they fail.

Tower of Terror is the official logo of MGM/ Hollywood Studios it definitely deserves to be kept in better condition.

That's easy to explain.

Star Wars is a priority because it helps to push merchandise and Disney+ subscriptions. Anything Star Wars related gets extra attention.

The Twilight Zone is a CBS show. The ride is not tied to a franchise, nor "Disney" enough (though soon it will have two movies to it's name). The ride is popular enough to keep going as is, but not much more.
