Not a huge fan of how they left the place after they demolished it. They used to try and hide construction/demolition work from guests as much as possible. Leaving a dumpster, a pile of dirt and equipment at the site is a pretty bad show.
It’s an active construction site, I don’t think they need to build a construction wall on a highway median for something that will probably be fresh sod within 24 hrs

Gone but forever in our hearts 😁. To those who are fatigued that every time Disney takes something away that people like me are upset. I understand why you are tone deaf and why you are over the negativity. I am realistic in my understanding of the “bottom line”. In my heart that doesn’t change that loss of something that holds even a small emotional attachment still hurts.

What I hope you can understand is that to kids (and young at heart) visiting for the first time or returning things like this “billboard” (quotes because this is more than a standard billboard) sparked conversations that otherwise wouldn't have happened if you are staring at a highway median of shrubbery.

Imagine your kids (or any first timer) see the attraction sign approaching on World Drive, they say things like “I don't want to go on that” and their imagination grips them or “I remember that ride, I want to go on again”. Then you all start talking about what else your looking forward to and the fond memories that follow and before you know it you are at your hotel and the vacation adventure begins anew.

[Tongue in cheek] I fear now my kids won’t have anything to divert their attention from their iPads before we arrive at our hotel 😁.

As is the challenge with a lot of Disney's offerings, JuniorExec A approves a great "temporary" offering, meant to last only a couple of years. JuniorExec A leaves before the end of that period. JuniorExec B comes in, realizes this item's demolition/replacement costs vs maintenance costs ROI would be negative for their anticipated tenure, so temporary item stays. Rinse and repeat, until this temporary item becomes ingrained in the nostalgia of WDW. Finally, maintenance costs are so high, the ROI flips positive during JuniorExec X's tenure, and the item comes down. Much gnashing teeth in the Disney community ensues.

This.....is rubbish..... can't wait for all the die hards to swoop in and defend disney by telling us how trivial this sign is and how it has zero impact on ones vacation so why should anyone care.

Stuff like this made disney unique and god there on a record pace to be as plain and normal as possible.
It truly is rubbish now! Too bad!

Two prime examples of that.

Not angry, but disappointed.

But... Now how will I know that I'm at WDW without all of these visual cues telling me that I'm at WDW???? I hope a dozen more flat, static billboards are erected to replace this 3D billboard. That plus characters and character images everywhere are the only way I know where I am. /s

The iconic Disney music that can only be found on that channel will be gone forever.
Can someone remind what the resort TV channel was? I always played the channel in our room that showed the different parks with their icons and it played the music. I drove my husband crazy with it because I left it on that all the time. This past trip in June the channel closest to that was the one showing a picture of our resort hotel.

That's the one. There are many references in this thread to some discussions had in another:

Both of those being removed were a plus. The billboard not so much. I think its exciting driving up to the front gates and seeing billboards and other things to get you excited about YOURE ALMOST THERE!!! Its part of the Disney bubble. Id like to see more of the old school topiaries also on the way in. And signs with donald and mickey... maybe ones that tell a story as you drive (not obnoxious but like 3-5)

Yeah it's got some nostalgic value, but it's just a billboard. I got no real value out of it and it's not going to have a material impact on anybody's enjoyment of a trip to WDW.

My problem with it is that it's just another example of the Disney park's current behavior of continuing to remove anything that isn't a pure revenue generator or can't be upsold.
