Trip Report Walt Disney World turns 45! (a day trip)

Hey everyone!
I've never written a trip report before, but last week I was able to spend the day in Magic Kingdom for the 45th and it was one of the more magical days I've had in the parks lately, so I wanted to share it with you!

I made it to the TTC by 7:20ish that morning to find that the monorails weren't operating and that all guests had to take the ferry. I was really hoping to make it to the park in time for the welcome show, but due to how many guests were queued up for the ferry ahead of me, that didn't happen. At that point in the morning every single person going through bag check was also asked to go through the metal detectors, but they were very efficient and I still made it in the park a few short minutes after 8:00 when the park opened.

My main reason for going to the park that day, aside from just wanting to spend a day in MK, was to see George Kalogridis' presentation on the castle stage. As I walked down Main Street, I found an insane line out the Emporium door (for 45th merch) that went almost the entire way down the street (later in the day, it was backed up close to Casey's). I made my way to the castle and grabbed a spot for the show. I was about five rows back from the stage, which I was pretty pleased with. While I was waiting for it to start at 9:30, George was standing off at the side of the castle with a Guest Relations cast member, a few women, and a camera man, doing interviews assumedly. Finally, 9:30 rolled around and the Disney Ambassadors came out on stage to say good morning, followed by more characters than you can count bursting out on stage to "Zip-a-dee-doh-dah". It was such a magical moment and I was so surprised at how many characters were there! I was really just expecting Mickey and Minnie, but seeing all the princesses and their princes on stage as well gave me chills (especially Rapunzel and Eugene)!

After the characters were all on stage, George was introduced and spoke for a long while about what it was like to work opening day back in 1971; he was a busboy at the Contemporary. Then he continued to talk about when Roy dedicated the park and officially referred to it as Walt Disney World and how Walt was the greatest entertainment innovator, which made me really emotional. The most exciting part of the entire presentation though, was when George started talking about Avatar, Star Wars and Toy Story and how wonderful those lands would be. After stating that, he said that there was so much more to come between now and the golden anniversary that he just wasn't ready to talk about yet! I've been looking forward to our 50th anniversary for such a long time and this statement made me even more excited! I can't wait to see what new magic we'll be getting over the next five years! :) Once he finished speaking, more cast members came out on stage and performed "When You Wish Upon a Star" and then the Ambassadors told us to have a magical day and it was over! It was only about ten minutes, but it was so worth it. There was so much excitement in the air the entire time and when I turned around I found that I could barely see past the Partners statue because of how many people had ended up crowding in since I had gotten my spot. I hadn't realized quite how busy the park was until that moment!

The rest of the day was filled with our favorite attractions (and unfortunately by evening a ton of rain) and reminiscing on great memories that we've had in the parks over the years. It was such a wonderful day in the parks and I'm so looking forward to WDW50! :)

I also filmed a vlog in MK that day as well, which you can check out here if you'd like!

Thanks for reading & have a magical day! :)

Sounds like it was a great day! How exciting to hear straight from the horses mouth that more exciting announcements are to come! I got teary eyed just reading what you wrote about Walt...it's really so true.

Thanks for sharing.
