Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

I ran the 10k this past January as part of the Dopey Challenge. To be honest, it really wasn't too bad from a crowding perspective. Although, I did purposefully start from the rear of my corral. The first short stretch after the start is fairly narrow. But, you turn towards the main entrance of Epcot fairly quick and it opens up nicely. Just after mile 3, you enter into the back side of Test Track before entering into World Showcase. This could get a little pinched.

All in all, not too terribly bad

Thanks for the review! Really looking forward to the 10K. :)

Given how quickly the Dopey sold out, and considering this is an anniversary year for the race, I am surprised the Goofy actually seems to be filling a bit slowly.

I think they cannibalized the Goofy market by offering so many Dopey slots. Lots of people I've talked to are of the mindset, I'm already doing Goofy, whats a 5k and a 10k on top of it? And since the Dopey includes the Goofy medal, why not?

I think this is exactly why the Goofy hasn't sold out yet. Many that would have previously signed up for the Goofy have opted for the Dopey instead since it also includes the Goofy medal.

I'm still amazed at the speed in which Goofy is filling. I wonder how many slots they actually allocated for that challenge with it being an anniversary year.

I think this explains a lot of it. Maybe there just aren't a lot of people left that are ready to take the Goofy plunge.

Lots of Goofy runners probably decided they may as well go Dopey - Dopey closed.
Lots of Dopey runners took up the 5K and 10K slots...add to that anyone that wanted to stick to shorter races - the 5K and 10K close.
Lots of people want to take it to the next level and run a longer race, but aren't yet ready for a marathon - the half marathon closes.

Or something? Who knows. It's bizarre.

Is this the quickest sell out we've seen for this event?

I do believe so. Each year the pace has quickened. One or another of us has done a pretty good job of posting updates when the numbers change, and the earlier years before we started tracking here they were open for months.

This is the first year I've signed up for a Disney running event, and I fortunately signed up when the registration opened. I would have been so disappointed had I not gotten into the Dopey. A bit richer too, and not as stressed and tired, but still disappointed. ;)

Things have definitely been picking up. I think for the past couple of years or so it's been rare that a race still has open spots after the first price increase. I'm guessing that is when Goofy will fill up...before the registration price goes up on June 25.
