Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
No stories yet? Wish I could remember everything. Fellow runners were entertaining today. Heard a woman at about 23 say, "I'm going to finish. My oldest daughter said, please don't die Mom." Ran a bit with a guy dressed as Ursula. We were exiting Blizzard Beach. Someone entering said, "This looks terrible." Guy next to me, "It is."

Signs were ESPN Game Day quality. "You're doing a better job running the parks than Chapek." "You paid $680 for this. Only $206 to go." Wish I could remember more, they cracked me up. Outside of DHS, "Caution runners, bubbles ahead."

The heat was not bad thanks to a nice breeze. My goal was 5:30 but told myself be happy with beating 6 hours. Finished around 5:40 with a bathroom break. Very happy.

I'm calling this my first ultra because they start at 30 miles and I walked 4 miles before the race even started. Where's my Mickey Ultra medal?
The “running the parks better than Chapek” guy gave my t-shirt a shout out after I applauded his sign. Y’all know I don’t often get political, but I felt that the 2024 Presidential election cycle is too important, now more than ever, so I wore a campaign shirt that seemed to resonate with him.

The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase has the money and Hacksaw Jim Duggan has the unbridled patriotism we need to get this country back on track! 😉

I finally did my first ever in-race character stop after finding a Photopass photographer with little-to-no line shortly after exiting Animal Kingdom. I’m not sure what movie these plants were in (live action Jungle Book?), but was happy to get a pic with them.

@Texas84 I was shooting for 5:30:00 as well. I was going to try to run a mile/walk a mile, but quickly changed that when the 5:00 pace group caught up with me around mile 4, so I ran with them for a couple of miles with the idea that I would do the same when the 5:15 caught up and then finish the race with the 5:30 group. 5:15 pacer caught me around mile 12 and I stayed with them until mile 16, figuring the 5:30 group would hit me around mile 23-24. It never came and, apparently, the 5:15 group fell apart too, because I passed that pacer just before the last water stop.

Long story short, I ended up with 5:33:44, which I’m quite pleased with all things considered. I actually hit 26.2 at 5:28:00, but had built up a little over .4 mile deficit from all the zig zagging and wide turns while walking.

That post-race beer could not have hit the spot any better!

Then it was off to Universal for the afternoon.

That plant photo is hilarious! That’s my kind of photo stop. 😂 How random!

Congratulations on a great race! Hope you had fun at Universal. Did you take a ride on Velocicoaster to loosen up the muscles? 😉

Haha, I loved how the photographer even offset it with me on the side of the pic, as if there were actually a character there!

No Velocicoaster this trip, my legs told me they wouldn’t allow me to park hop and, between the two, only one has ET 😃. Also, since I had never done Shrek 4D, I wanted get one run through of it before it closes forever tomorrow!

The framing is perfect for photoshopping in your favorite character of choice! The photographer was totally owning his job responsibilities this morning. 😂

And ET is always the correct choice!

For all those out there: how was the WDW Rundisney/ (marathon) race experience with all the COVID things around it? And how did it feel? Lots of extra/different rules and/or adaptions?

With all the 'gotta live with it' and ' the new kind of flu endemic' news, was this weekend doable and is this kind of protocol sustainable for the (near) future? It looks like it's quite okay and doable but it's hard to tell. Most of the things I saw were kinda regular so I'm not sure if this is the go to option for next waves ...

We did it!!!!! Dopey!!! Marathon!!!

Excellent running conditions, great entertainment, and it was hard!!! But the hard is what made it great!

I had my fastest Dopey Marathon ever at 4:03, which was 42 mins faster than my old record!! And this was my 2nd fastest of all time.

Crowd support was huge.

@RunningKoen the only difference was masks at expo/on bus and corrals are now named starting groups. Literally no difference which is so refreshing!!

That sounds very good! I'll get my booster this wednesday and an eventual 4th or 5th jab are fine for me, so I can travel and enjoy WDW running again! Won't spend my money and time on a watered-down version of these weekends.

A possible forced quarantaine after traveling is acceptable, so let's focus on Wine and Dine'22 and offcourse the big 30. Who's in for marathon 2023? :)

My fastest rD half at 2:49:25 and my 5th fastest half ever! I was really happy, considering how congested the course felt even compared to previous years. I can’t remember if this was the first year of the earlier start time or not, but I absolutely loved running through MK while it was still dark. As a slower, middle of the pack runner, it’s usually already sunny by the time I hit the TTC.

I hope everyone had a great run. It never got too warm. I wore my arm compression sleeves and was afraid I’d regret it, but ended up keeping them on the whole time.

Oh and @DznyGrlSD - I think I saw you giving directions (the option to take the grass or paved road)? I did an awkward double take, and was going to stop, but saw you had a microphone and had to give repeated messaging, so I didn’t want to interrupt. So if that was you, a belated “hello!” and I hope you had a fun time this morning!

That was me on Saturday morning! GRASS on your right - PAVEMENT on your left

Wow....all 4!

When I was around mile 2.5 on World Dr, someone ahead of me recognized her, called out her name, and everyone started yelling and cheering (she was probably around 9.5). She turned and waved with a huge smile on her face. Dressed as Joy, and looked like she was having an absolute blast. What an accomplishment!
