Walt Disney World Holiday Season 2024

Sure, but he’s Elton John. Still an A-lister.
Absolutely, he’s a worldwide treasure and I, for one, cannot complain he performed. But the reason he was there wasn’t to improve the performer lineup with an A-lister to go along with the C- and D-listers also performing. It’s… disappointing.

The Holiday display at Newark Airport is on par with this.

Is the measure of success for a Disney park now being comparable to that of an airport in New Jersey?
Hell, there’s the “Holiday Light Fight” series on ABC this year. Any one of those setups outdoes what Disney puts out these days.

I actually went on LWTL this evening, and for the first time just got a return time instead of using DAS. (Surprisingly painless process as well I must say, and one I might just decide to do instead of pressing my luck with the whammy merchants... Gave me enough time to enjoy that giant cookie from the nearby restaurant) The The lights are arguably one of the best sets of displays in all of Walt Disney World nowadays. They just keep adding every year which is great. I also swear that they must have done a new narration because I don't recall this narration being there last year. It was nice, definitely better than just playing the usual narration in the greenhouses, but once again I almost wanted none at all just to look at the lights.

I will also note that whenever that Joy or Joyful or whatever it is is playing on the Communicore area stage, it is far too loud and distracting to be able to hold a pleasant conversation with your traveling companions, let alone do much thinking yourself. It's also not very good but that's besides the point. Ironically the hall itself, while definitely not greatly decorated, at least has that fun little light show. Don't think I'll candlelight this year mostly for schedule reasons, which annoys me, but the list of narrators available before blackout dates for me did not blow me away to the point where I know that person will never be back. If DVD showed up, I'd be willing to wait a couple of hours in line for him but that's about it. NPH will show up again, and so will most former narrators who didn't this year at some point...

Jollywood is missing something. It just didn’t feel like a party like MVMCP does. We couldn’t quite put our finger on what it was, but something just wasn’t clicking. And the fireworks were super meh.

A simple thing that would get me to purchase a ticket (simple being relative) is ride overlays. So many screen-based rides in HS and not one with a Christmas overlay for the party is weak.

I got to do a few days at the parks this year, mostly Epcot. Festival of the Holidays was decent. Food quality was where it should have been (noting some serious drops in others), though the prices are getting a little frustrating. Major takeaways:
1. Merch was fun but kinda niche.
2. CommuniCore Hall is a disappointment. Period. I appreciate that people are seeing little improvements, but this was a giant fail.
3. The stage outside is even worse. It is so loud. It really ruins the atmosphere of Celebration Gardens. This whole area is just a mistake, sadly. (Save for the Gingerbread Coffee Porter at EPCookies.)
4. FULLY agree on LwtL. The back wall lights really added to things a lot. People seemed to really enjoy it. It was a topic of conversation with people. I think they should do other overlays with different ideas during the year. The ride needs a decent scrub, but it still has a strong following. I also agree on the overlays. I think a Midway Mania overlay is a great idea. I also think IASW, CBMJ, Tiki - even Guardians (eventually).
5. It was fairly busy. Crowds thinned out during the evening, though that could have been because of the temperatures.
6. Candlelight seemed very popular.
7. PEACE. ON. EARTH. TAG. 2.0!!!!
8. LIGHTS. OF. WINTER. 2.0!!!! (Either across the bridge or a modern version in Celebration Gardens behind JoW in that empty walkway).
9. The holiday background track is very nice. Though I found myself wanting the Pinar track in World Celebration/the entry. I take that as a good thing for the new music. (I think Luminous tying into it is a big part of that for me. It makes it feel like a park theme.)
10. How does the UK (Rose and Crown) not have at least a few British gins???

Did you hear he is now blind in one eye and almost blind in the other one? Some sort of rare eye infection.

IMO, put an equivalent where FoN used to be. That planter needs to be a centerpiece for every festival to even partially justify its existence.

I originally thought that, too. I do think it needs something. (Though I think a kinetic Epcot logo in different materials would be better.) The area that really needs the decor are the planters south of the central garden. That area is totally dead! And, a lot more real estate to put things.

The Ladyparts planter just needs to go and be replaced with something worthy of that spot. A smaller version of a FON would be great... The area needs some water... It feels dry and dead.
Well that ship has sailed unfortunately. There is no way they are going to rip up the center again to install all the infrastructure for any kind of water feature. Best hope is that some worthwhile addition is made to the planter.

I suggested this to a friend of mine who works on LWTL, half jokingly, but about the only real addition they need is to put Santa hats on the various animals throughout the first part of the ride. See how long it takes people to notice.
