Most people dont realize it but the Coast Guard used to fall under the Dept of Transportation. Thats why they always had a hard time getting funding for their toys.

This is a good gesture by Disney and I agree with the others who have said that the offer should be made to coalition forces as well. I was disappointed to see that at WDW they are only offering a 40% discount off the rack rates for "selected" resorts. Heck, that's the normal discount rate (street price) available to anyone. I don't mean to sound callous, but this seems to me to be a ploy to increase the sagging WDW resort bookings. Nothing wrong with "papering the house". I just think this is another indication that the WDW resort bookings need help.

I also hope they extend the offer for those unable to take advantage of the deal this year. :D

Another small point about the tickets. They are not park hoppers, they are 5 day admissions. The way I read it it amounts to 5 free admissions to any of the parks listed. If you went to 2 parks in one day you would use 2 days admission. Am I misreading this? The last time they did this was after 9/11 and they gave each active duty member a free 7 day park hopper plus 50% on family memeber tickets. I just wonder why not give at least a 5 day hopper? I don't see how it could make any possible difference to Disney. Any thoughts?

And to forego anymore thread drift here's alink to a Coast Guard site that can describe their missions much better than I.

I called wdw and asked that question. I was told the tickets have to be used by Dec 19th. You can go to multiple parks each day for 5 days. Also, it doesn't have to be 5 consecutive days.

Thanks for posting that information. I wonder why the announcemnet doesn't call them parkhoppers. :brick: When it comes to tickets, Disney likes to keep you wondering :D Anyway that's great news. Now I have another excuse to plan a trip, can't let a deal like this pass me by!
