The walkway between Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has been closed until further notice. It is unknown what the closure is for, but it is likely to accommodate trucks frequently entering and leaving Grand Floridian Way.

For me, being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom was the biggest draw of the Magic Kingdom resorts, so it is sad to see this amenity disappear for all of the guests staying there.

I mean, it’s annoying, but the ability to easily walk to the Magic Kingdom from the Polynesian and Grand Floridian has only existed since 2021. The bigger issue is the inability to quickly hop between the offerings of the Grand and the Polynesian, in my opinion.

To get from poly to grand: Take monorail one stop

Still simple.
Well, I tried the monorail for for the Polynesian - Grand Floridian segment last night and it took a half hour because the monorail broke down. But yes, during normal operations the monorail is still simple. I just prefer to use my own two feet because then I don’t even have to think about delays.

I forgot that the Polynesian and Grand Floridian share a gym as well. Now you’d have to take a monorail or boat back from the gym… don’t think that’s very appealing!

No. It’s because of the next phase of the world drive/Floridian way project.
I hope that it’s because of trucks entering and leaving the highway, but I never considered it being part of the Floridian Way realignment project. I suppose it could be due to the project, but there is a protective cement barrier along the trail that seems to separate it.

Eventually there will be a continuous path within the resorts connecting them. But at the moment Disney has no desire to have guests walking thought a narrow corridor between two massive constructions sites.

Minor update: It appears as though the number of guests using the walkway is similar to usual. The path’s entrance from both resorts are clearly labeled and partially closed off, but guests are opting to disobey the signs as the closure is a significant inconvenience for many.

While breaking the rules is certainly frowned upon, I think it demonstrates that this has had an impact on guest satisfaction. Hopefully, the closure can be limited to only during work hours or something similar. To be completely closed seems a little nonsensical. Given the lengths they’ve gone to keep this connection open so far, I can only hope they understand the value that this path holds. It won’t ruin your trip at all, but it is an important connection.

If there is a gap guests could wander into the construction at night or during daytime it won't be available. Now if guests choose to ignore the closed warnings then the liability is shifted and they are on their own so why care?

If guests continue to disobey then except more robust barriers. They were able to keep it open so far because it was only going around the poly project. Now that the world drive project has recently kicked into high gear they want the bypass closed. Remember to that this is a contruction project that Disney doesn’t control.

I’ll get a much better look at it today, but it looks as though a new and wider trail has been paved where the old one was. I believe it turned off to the beach side of the building, and it’s the same pavement style as what was previously there.

Hoping the walkway gets back open soon enough!

Not sure if it’s true or not, and I don’t remember where I read it but I remember hearing that in the early days of Disneyland, Walt Disney noticed an area where flowers had been trampled by guests making a shortcut and his response was “we need to pave that - it’s clear that the guests desire a walkway there” - not “build a bigger fence”

Throughout the country, construction projects exist where pedestrian access is needed - there are many solutions beyond build a wall - the guests are at fault!

You’re comparing a situation where a permanent improvement was needed to a temporary situation where alternate solutions are available in the meantime.
