Walking down Main Street, are we doing it right?

We walk right down the middle of the street. If they didn't want people walking in the street, they'd be told to get on the sidewalks. Walking down the middle of the street gives a great view of the castle and you're able to take in everything on both sides of you. We usually go in under the right side of the train station (have to get a locker first) and then cut over to the middle right behind Town Square.

The very idea of MS is to be able to walk on the street (again). As motorised traffic had taken over America's streets, people grew nostalgic for the old main streets. So Walt build one. And without the horses and horse poo too!

There is a great irony in that the traffic free 1955 version of an idealised traffic free 1905 main street by 2005 had become taken over by motorised scooters again.

I've read once that the sidewalks are there for authenticity. The street would look weird without them. There are always plans to remove them, for better traffic flow and less strained ankles of people staring up the castle. But the 'keep the sidewalks' party has so far prevailed.

Pedestrians were not corralled onto sidewalks until the late 1920s. So walking in the road is completely in theme.

To which I would like to add the Main Street of Marceline, Missouri, the way a very young Walt knew it. One of the inspirations for MS USA.

The reason I don't walk in the street is that I don't want to be hit by cars. Low risk of being hit by a car on Main Street, so that's why I am comfortable there. :)

Why I'll continue walking down Main Street USA and not use sidewalks:
An hour before parades start, people sit on the curb, or are piled three deep taking up sidewalk space.
Guests pushing strollers down the sidewalks force me off the sidewalk into the street.
I've had more collisions with people not paying attention, rushing in and out of the stores on Main Street.
I can't get a good view of ( or take pictures of) the windows of Main Street if I'm on the sidewalk.
I'm aware enough of the trolleys and Main Street vehicles that I will not get run over.
I can walk to any of the Lands faster by moving in a wide street than on a narrow sidewalk.

I never really thought about it before, but this thread made me realize that I almost always walk down Main Street on the sidewalk. I usually try to avoid being right in people's photos, and walking in front of the photographers. On the way out, we usually cut through the row of gift shops instead of exiting on the street or sidewalks. Especially if it's after Wishes or MSEP.
