Walking down Main Street, are we doing it right?

We all remember the many memories we have walking down Main Street. The perfect beginning to a great adventure. This recreation of turn of the century America is a beautiful one, but left me thinking one thing. During the turn of the century, did people walk on the road?

Has anyone else wondered this, why do we walk on the road on Main Street. We don't do it on a real street, so what makes it ok? Sure now it's just instinct. Everyone does it, but was it planned that way. In 1955 were WED expecting this to be the case? Or did one guy just decide it was ok and it just kinda stuck?

Just sharing what I had been curious about, would love to hear opinions :)

I think maybe they intended the street to be for the trolleys and horses and stuff but as the crowds got bigger and bigger people just started using the street as the sidewalk.

I don't have any evidence, but I've heard that in Disneyland people walk more on the sidewalks and in the MK they walk more on the street when walking up Main Street.

I prefer to just put my right foot in front of my left and then repeat with my left foor in front of the right and repeat and keep moving forward.

Well for me I love walking on the road, not the sidewalk.I sometimes wonder how many famous people have walked on this same road as myself.I reckon it's the most famous road in the entire world.( not just WDW )

I always walk up the left side of the sidewalk when coming in to the parks. I like to look in the store windows. If I want a picture, I'll step into the street and take it and return to the sidewalk. Seems like most people hurrying here and there are using the street so being on the sidewalk seems safer?!

We walk down the middle and let the Magic wash over us. The real question is after walking under the train station do you walk around or across the circle. I believe we always walk around and past the barber shop. If it's not busy we get color and sparkles in the kids hair on our way in.
