5°C is 41°F; 7° is almost 45°.

By contrast, 5°F is minus 15°C.

Because I was in grade five when Canada switched to Metric, I already had quite a bit of Imperial under my belt. Mike is one year younger than me, and the difference in our comprehension of Imperial measurements is marked.

I don’t remember grade 4 being that formative, but I guess it must have been. We did learn the very basics of the birds and the bees that year. That I do remember.
