Walk from Epcot to MGM?

I am leaving in a few hours and was wondering how long the walk from Epcot to MGM takes? Do you just go out through Intenational Gateway? What do you go past? Is it better to go that way or bus to park hop?
Thanks!

your best bet is take the boat. The walkway looked pretty long while I was on the boat and it lets you out at the beginning of the bus drop off so you will still have to walk all the way up to the entrance

Depends on if you want to relax, or if you're in a hurry, especially in the evening. It only takes 15-20 minutes to walk at a normal pace (unless kids might slow you down). I've always beaten the boats, which have a total of 5 or 6 stops (Int'l Gateway, BC/YC, Boardwalk, Dolphin & Swan (can't remember if this is 1 or 2 stops), Dis-MGM). So if a boat isn't at the dock when I get there, I go ahead and walk.

Also, yes you do leave Epcot throught the Int'l Gateway. You can then go either past BC/YC or Boardwalk. I've always gone past BC/YC, which also takes you past Swan and Dolphin, and the paths rejoin on the opposite side of Boardwalk, so you walk past their theme pool area, "Luna Park". Then under a bridge and then along the waterway to Dis-MGM, with a great view of ToT from the back side.

I'd walk b/c you're going to be in close quarters with complete strangers every other second of your trip. Why not stroll on your own at your own pace and see if you can beat the boat! It'll be like a game. :D

I've done it a few times. My recollection is that it's a 1.5 mile walk; I walk 2 miles/day, so it was a piece of cake. However, it might be harder in the summertime in 95 degree weather with the sun beating down, and 80% humidity!

The walk is not bad....and it is much faster than the boat, due to the stops the boat will make along the way.

If you don't mind the exercise, walk it.....if you would rather trade comfort for time, take the boat.

To my knowledge it is more than 1.5 miles. The path from the boardwalk to MGM is slightly longer than that. Add in a walk all the way from the IGateway, that adds up to be a big walk. Sure it's probably faster (friendships take about 30 mins to get from the IG to MGM), but it is a lot of walking that you don't need to be doing. If you go for a walk, make sure to cut through the boardwalk as it is MUCH faster. You can cut through to the pool area near the main lawn/rear entrance to the Boardwalk, and thus cut off a big chunk of the walk.

I agree! If you are just walking to the Boardwalk, mostly it is better to walk, but all the way to MGM, the boat is better, and if you are going to both parks, you'll most likely be doing plenty of walking as it is...unless you've never been to the Boardwalk/Swan/Dolphin - then it is worth it to explore these areas, especially in the evening.

From allearsnet....

(about the Boardwalk Inn)

How do I get to all of the wonderful places at WDW?

You picked a great resort because it is all about Location! Location! Location!

Epcot is a pleasant 5 minute stroll from the Boardwalk Inn
. Or if you choose you can catch a Friendship boat from the boat dock right outside on the Boardwalk. The boats leave every 20 minutes and those on the right side of the dock will bring you to the International Gateway, right at Epcot's ticket gates. I highly recommend walking to Epcot. Nine times out of 10 it is much faster than taking the Friendship boat.

To reach the Disney-MGM Studios you have two options. You could take a leisurely 15 to 20 minute stroll along the approximately one-mile long path along the waterway connecting the Epcot resort area with the Disney-MGM Studios. Or you can take the Friendship boat from the left side of the boat dock on the Boardwalk, making stops at the Yacht and Beach Club dock and then the Swan and Dolphin dock before continuing on to the Studios.

So its about a mile from MGM to the Boardwalk and then a 5 minute stroll to Epcot.

EDIT: A forum search of this subject brought up these threads.......

Personally, I enjoy the walk, if it's not 100 degrees with 100% humidity!!!!:(
I enjoy walking on Disney's Boardwalk. Although it is a rather long walk I have always noticed that the boat takes FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only reason I would take the boat is if the heat is unbearable!!!!!! But usually once I'm down there for about 3 days of so I get used to the heat. Trust me, going from Cleveland weather to Orlando weather is aweful!!!!!!! That first day is a killer!!!!

Just to illustrate how slow the boat moves, Indy 95 and I, beat the boat in a race from MGM to the Boardwalk!!!!! He got quite an ovation from the people on board the boat. They LOVED IT!!!! Trust me, Indy 95 (my cousin) has CM written all over him.

That "little jog" (ha!) was at night, so the extra effort was worth it (ie I didn't faint from July midday heat exhaustion). The boat goes about as fast as a slow run. And the CM driving the boat actually put the spotlight on us! I felt like I was preshow entertainment for Fantasmic or something.

The best course of action would be this: if you cannot see a boat either at the dock or coming in, then it is best to walk the whole way. If you do see a boat at the dock or coming in, then take the boat TO THE FIRST STOP ONLY, and then walk the rest of way. The boat will make many extra stops, so the first stop is where to get off.

P.S. When the heat is unbearable, not even the boats are much cooler, though it does give you a chance to rest...and fry an egg on the bench next to you.

Plus the bugs will get to ya if you walk at night. Stop at the first stop like Jeff (Indy95) said, him and I did it back when we went in 2003 and it worked awsome. Plus the boat drivers like to do trivia every once in a while, so it's fun to rule that! :D

I walked from MGM to Epcot and beat the boat even while shopping at the Boardwalk. I would only do this again if I wasn't tired and it wasn't too hot out. Otherwise, take the boat. The boat ride is about 30 minutes with stops to the Swan/Dolphin, Yacht/Beach, Boardwalk Resort, and finally onto Epcot.

Thanks for all the input! We walked and my girls had a great time discovering a part of Disney they had never seen.It took us about 20 mins even with them stopping to look at everything. It hasn't been hot here so it made the choice easy..in fact on Thurs night we were bundled up to watch Illuminations...it was freezing out...even people from Minnesota near us were surprised-they had to go buy sweatshirts! :-)
