When did they have a :Kiss the Girl Sequence!?!?!: I would've liked to have seen it! hmmm...any suggestions to clean up the Video Montage section?
I don't beleive they ever did, I think they were reffering to the movie. Well, I too am a HUGE fan of this show, but I think they need to:

* Bring in a little more, (Kiss the girl, maybe have King Triton ON stage yelling at Ariel, bring Prince Eric in a bit more, ya know?) I don't see why the show can't be a bit longer, like BATB show. I also always felt the show was very rushy.

I wouldn't change the opening of the show, however, if possible make the projections on the screen more crisp. I like the opening Ah-Ah-Ah Chorus and the Lazer and Mist, all very cool effects. Add more effects to the "Under the Sea" number, just make it bigger...more puppets, more bubbles, make it big. Keep the lazer Triton Sabastian Sequence. And then keep the Ariel entrance "Part of Your World" number, but I would then have Sabastian interrupt her, Ariel gets mad like she does, goes off and goes to the surface. This is where the screen is utilized again, showing Ariel swim up and see, Prince Eric, and showing the boat catch on fire, and Ariel Rescueing him a short video sequence. The screen would then lift to show a statue of Prince Eric, she sings a small reprise of Part of Your World, Triton then enters very angry at her, destroys the statue and then leaves, Ariel cries, and Ursula's minions appear and lure her towards Ursula's lair (the scene goes dark) Ursula's music is heard, and out of the darkness you see her Yellow eyes. Lights up and Ursula and Ariel exhange Dialogue and then sing "Poor Unfortunet Souls" . The screen then comes back down showing Ariel swimming to the surface. The video also cuts to her being picked up by Prince Eric, and he tells her he's going to take her out on the countryside. The Screen then lifts again and the characters sing "Kiss the Girl" inside a Weeping Willow Tree. The boat gets tipped over and the minions swim back to Ursula (the screen then comes down again, showing Ursula changing into a Human, transfixing Prince Eric, and the wedding, with all the animals trying to help out, leading into Ursula grabbing Ariel into the Water, The Screen then lifts to reveal Ursula threatening Ariel and then using King Triton's the Scepter, she then starts getting bigger and bigger, her tentactle (air blown) stretch from inside the walls down on the audience, Prince Eric in the boat (onstage) then comes and punctures her, big lightning crashes and electric shock (like in movie, except this one is LIVE) The screen comes down again, it shows the mermaids returning to their old selves again. The screen lifts and Triton transforms ariel into a human, and ariel runs offtage, Triton and Sebastain exchange a few words, and the stage opens to reveal a big ending of Prince and Ariels wedding with a big Chrous Finale....

it still needs a little fine tuning, i would really need to sit and plan it out, but this is just a general idea, as i sit here at my computer.....but it would be a nice rehab
I REALLY like that idea! Very creative! Disney needs a copy of this!!!! Although, I don't think the screen show come up and down so much. It seems like it would go, up for 1 minute, down for 3 seconds, up for 2 minutes, etc. But if you ever get time you should wright a script! I can help!

Made My Own Script!

Thanks to the idea of Disneydreams287, I have made my own script! So here it is!

Cast Member: Your attention, please. Look to your left. If there's any empty seats, even if there's only one, we do ask that you please move over and fill it in. And for those of you travelling with a small child, you might want to place that child on your lap. We do use an elevated stage. Hello everyone, my name is J*****, and I'd like to welcome you to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Before we begin, we do ask that you please stay seated throughout the entire show. Please do not take any flash photography. You may use high speed film or a video camera without lights, but please no flash photography. Again, please stay seated throughout the entire show, with no flash photography. And now, the Disney-MGM Studios is proud to present the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

Music plays, and we hear the sounds of the ocean. Gradually, a ship appears on the movie screen in front of us, and it grows larger and larger as it advances toward us. Finally, just as the ship seems to travel right over us, a curtain of falling water drapes across the front of the stage, misting those in the first few rows. Green lighting shining overhead on the mist in the theater makes it appear as if we, the audience, are actually under the sea.
Sebastian: (laughs) De human world! It's a mess. Life under de sea is better dan anything dey got up dere.

"Under the Sea" music begins to play. Please note: the following musical number is performed as a blacklight puppet show. The stage is dark, and the puppeteers wear black clothing, so they can't be seen. The sea creature puppets are painted in bright colors that stand out in blacklight, so it appears that they are swimming across the stage in front of us, under their own power. They dance and cavort merrily.

Sebastian: (sings)
De seaweed is always greener
In somebody else's lake
You dream about going up dere
But dat is a big mistake
Just look at de world around you
Right here on de ocean floor
Such wonderful dings surround you
What more is you lookin' for?
Under de sea
Under de sea
Darling it's better
Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on de shore dey work all day
Out in de sun dey slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under de sea
(laughs happily)
Down here all de fish is happy
As off through de waves dey roll
De fish on de land ain't happy Dey sad 'cause dey in deir bowl
But fish in de bowl is lucky
Dey in for a worser fate
One day when de boss get hungry

Fish: Guess who's goin' be on de plate

The fish turns into an entree on a plate

Sebastian: Under de sea
Under de sea
Nobody beat us
Fry us and eat us
In fricassee
We what de land folks love to cook
Under de sea we off de hook
We got no troubles
Life is de bubbles
Under de sea

Chorus: Under the sea

Sebastian: Under de sea

Chorus: Under the sea

Sebastian: Since life is sweet here
We got de beat here
Naturally
Even de sturgeon an' de ray
Dey get de urge 'n' start to play
We got de spirit
You got to hear it
Under de sea
Ha!
De newt play de flute
De carp play de harp
De plaice play de bass
And dey soundin' sharp
De bass play de brass
De chub play de tub
De fluke is de duke of soul

Fluke: Yeah!

Sebastian: De ray he can play
De ling's on de strings
De trout rockin' out
De blackfish he sings
De smelt and de sprat
Dey know where it's at An' oh, dat blowfish BLOW!

The blowfish puppet appears to puff up, and Sebastian laughs

Sebastian: Under de sea
Under de sea
When de sardine
Begin de beguine
It's music to me
What do dey got? A lot of sand
We got a hot crustacean band
Each little clam here
know how to jam here
Under de sea
Each little slug here
Cuttin' a rug here
Under de sea
Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
Dat's why it's hotter
Under de water
Yeah, we in luck here
Down in de muck here
Under de sea!

The stage goes black. Dramatic music plays, and we see the face of King Triton appear, created with lasers.

Triton: Sebastian! Sebastian! My daughter Ariel has been up to the surface again.

Sebastian: Somebody's got to nail dat girl's fins to de floor.

Triton: She could've been seen by one of those barbarians. By -- by one of those humans! They're dangerous. Ariel needs constant supervision.

Sebastian: Constant!

Triton: And someone to watch over her. To keep her out of trouble.

Sebastian: All de time.

Triton: And you are just the crab to do it.

Sebastian: Jumpin' jellyfish! My nerves are shot. How do I get myself into dese situations? Teen-agers! Give dem an inch, dey swim all over you. What is dat girl up to?

Fadeout on Sebastian.

Flounder: Ariel! Ariel!

Ariel glides into view on our left, seated on a rock.

Flounder: Ariel!

Ariel: (sings)
I wanna be where the people are I wanna see
Wanna see 'em dancin'
Walkin' around on those
Whaddya call 'em? Oh, feet (laughs)
Flippin' your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumpin', dancin'
Strollin' along down a
What's that word again? ... Street
Up where they walk
Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin' free
Wish I could be
Part of that world
What would I give
If I could live
Out of these waters?
What would I pay
To spend a day
Warm on the sand?
Betcha on land
They understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women
Sick o' swimmin'
Ready to stand
And ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it --
What's the word -- burn?
when’s it my turn?
wouldn’t I love
love to explore that shore up above?

Sebastian is seen on stage left balcony

Sebastian: ARIEL! What are you-how could you- What is this?! (sigh) Ariel, your under a lot of pressure down here, come with me and we’ll get you something warm to-

<Sebastian’s voice fades as he exits. The stage is dark, except for Ariel.

Ariel: If only I could make them understand. I don’t see things the way he does, I don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things-could be bad...

<dramatic music makes the moment>

Ariel: Watch and you’ll see... someday I’ll be... part of your World!

Ariel glides off stage, where on screen we view her jumping to a ship. Suddenly, the ship catches fire, and Ariel saves a man from drowning. With light music, we see snips of Ariel singing to Eric, though we don’t hear any singing. This indicates she is falling in love. Cut to Eric waking up, and looking out to the sea. Cuts to Ariel watching from a rock. Screen lifts up, revealing Ariel sitting on her rock, center stage has a statue of Prince Eric. The stage is filled with all her human treasure.

Ariel: What would I give to live where you are?

what would I pay to stay here beside you?

What would I do to see you

smiling at me?

Triton appears on the on-stage screen.

Triton: Ariel! I’d consider myself a reasonable merman. I’ve set certain rules, and I expect those rules to be obeyed! You rescued a human from drowning, contact between the human world an the mer-world is strictly forbidden! So help me I am going to get through to you, and if this is the only way...so be it.

With a wave of his trident and a strong flash, it appears the stature has vanished, and the stage goes dark, so it appears all her treasures are gone. From the back of her rock, Ariel picks up the head of the statue and cries. Ominous music plays, and Ursula's sidekicks, the eels Flotsam and Jetsam, make an appearance at the left side of the stage.

Flotsam: Poor child.

Jetsam: Poor, sweet child.

Flotsam: She has a very serious problem.

Jetsam: If only there were something we could do.

Flotsam: But there is something.

Ursula, in the form of a gigantic puppet, rolls onstage.

Ursula: Now, now, angelfish, the solution to your problem is quite simple. The only way to get what you want is to become human yourself.

Ariel: Can you do that?

Ursula: Oh, my dear sweet child, that's what I do. It's what I live for. To help unfortunate merfolk like yourself. Poor souls with no one else to turn to. I'll make a potion that will turn you into a human for three days. If he kisses you before sunset on the third day, you'll remain human permanently. But if he doesn't, you turn back into a mermaid, and you belong to me. Have we got a deal?

Ariel: If I become human, I'll never be with my father or sisters again.

Ursula: That's right. But you'll have your man. Life's full of tough choices, innit? (wicked laugh) Oh! Oh, and there is one more thing, sweetcakes., you can’t get something for nothing you know...

Ariel: But I don’t have any-

Ursula: I’m not asking much. What I want is... your voice.

Ariel: But, without my voice ... how can I --

Ursula: You'll have your looks! Your pretty face! And don't underestimate the importance of ... body language!
(sings)
Come on, you poor unfortunate soul
Go ahead!
Make your choice!
I'm a very busy woman
And I haven't got all day
It won't cost much
Just your voice!
You poor unfortunate soul
It's sad
But true
If you want to cross a bridge, my sweet
You've got to pay the toll
Take a gulp and take a breath
And go ahead and sign the scroll!
Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys
The boss is on a roll
This poor unfortunate sooooooooooooul.

Ariel signs the contract.

Ursula: Beluga, Sevruga, come winds of the Caspian Sea.
Larynxis, glossitis, et max laryngitis,
La voce to me!
Now . . . sing!

Ariel begins to sing, and we see gloved hands magically reach toward her, grabbing her voice bit by bit and giving it to Ursula.

Ursula: Keep singing! ... Sing! (evil laugh)... Sing! (more laughter)... Sing!

As we hear Ursula laughing wickedly, we see a montage of clips from the movie, briefly outlining the storyline of Ariel swimming to the surface for air, Scuttle dressing her, meeting Eric on the beach. After a close up of Eric smiling, and then of Ariel smiling, the animation fades, and comes back showing Ariel and Eric taking a tour of the kingdom. Now the screen lifts, and we see a romantic lagoon. Sebastian and Scuttle appear on each side of the stage.

Sebastian: Did he kiss her yet?

Scuttle: Not yet! They gotta get a move on. Alright, it’s time for a little romantic stimulation.

Scuttle sings, and not so well. Ariel and Eric roll on stage in a boat, both not so happy with the sounds around them. Eventually, Sebastian can’t take anymore.

Sebastian: Oh I’m surrounded! If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

kiss the girl music plays. Sebastian sings. As the song goes on, he is joined by various puppets, creating a wonderful scene.

Sebastian: There you see her
Sitting there across the way
She don’t got a lot to say
But there’s something about her
And you don’t know why
But you’re dying to try
You wanna kiss the girl

Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
It’s possible she wants you, too
There is one way to ask her
It don’t take a word
Not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl

Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna miss the girl

Now’s your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better
She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word
Until you kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t stop now
Don’t try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Float along
Listen to the song The song say kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Music play
Do what the music say
You wanna kiss the girl

You’ve got to kiss the girl
Why don’t you kiss the girl
You gotta kiss the girl
Go on and kiss the girl...

Right before they kiss, the screen comes down. We see Ursula in anger, watching them fall out of the boat in her crystal ball.

Ursula: That was close! Too close! It’s time Ursula took matters into her own tentacles!

Ursula laughs, as we see her transform into a women. Through her crystal ball, we see clips from the movie briefly outlining the story of Eric, Ariel, and Vanessa. In final clips, we see Ursula has convinced Triton to sign her scroll. Suddenly, the audience is filled with air blown tentacles, and on stage, we see a giant Ursula puppet, only from the waste up. We can see Ariel as a mermaid on her rock.

Ariel: Eric you’ve gotta get away from here!

Ursula has seen Ariel, and laughs

Ursula: So much for true love!

Eric glides on stage left, in what appears to be an old broken ship, from the audience’s point of vew, it seems he has stabbed Ursula. As Ursula screams and lighting fills the theatre, the stage goes black. When the lights come back on, Eric is laying at the bottom of Ariel’s rock, unconsious. With sad music playing, Ariel takes Eric’s hand, and holds it to her face. Then with her other hand, feels her tail and realizes she can never be with him. She begins to cry. Then, King Triton appears on the on-stage screen.

Triton: She really does love him, doesn't she, Sebastian?

Sebastian: Hmmm, it's like I always say, Your Majesty. Children got to be free to lead deir own lives.

Triton: Then I guess there's just one problem left.

Sebastian: And what's dat, Your Majesty?

Triton: How much I'm going to miss her.

Triton magically transforms Ariel into a human before our eyes. Her fins turn into legs. Ariel is now wearing a dress. Max, Eric's dog, barks, and Eric begins to stir.

Eric: Ariel?

Ariel: (joyously) Eric!

Eric leads Ariel off stage. Now, dancers begin a waltz of Part of Your World. Eventually, Ariel and Eric appear center stage in their wedding outfits. Chorus sings.

Chorus: Now we can Walk

now we can run

now we can stay all day in the sun-

Eric: Just you and me...

Ariel: And I can be

All: Part of Your World

They exchange a kiss. And the curtains close.

thanks! I appreciate it! Too bad Disney doesn't love their CMs so much, if only my sister would quit collage and take that manager job for Disney she's been offered........

I think they should bring back the scenes between Triton and Sebastion. The one where Sebastian pops up from the rock-cliff as a puppet (the rocky area next to the stage) and is talking to Triton (Who is shown on screen, not an actor) telling Sebastian he is to watch over Ariel.

I miss the Sebastian Puppet.

Anyways, they should add a "Kiss the Girl" scene, and they should also add the bit where Ariel rescues Eric, show it stage wise, not screen wise.

There's so much they could do to improve it...

Not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl

Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna miss the girl

Now’s your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better
She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word
Until you kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t stop now
Don’t try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Float along
Listen to the song The song say kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Music play
Do what the music say
You wanna kiss the girl

You’ve got to kiss the girl
Why don’t you kiss the girl
You gotta kiss the girl
Go on and kiss the girl...

Right before they kiss, the screen comes down. We see Ursula in anger, watching them fall out of the boat in her crystal ball.

Ursula: That was close! Too close! It’s time Ursula took matters into her own tentacles!

Ursula laughs, as we see her transform into a women. Through her crystal ball, we see clips from the movie briefly outlining the story of Eric, Ariel, and Vanessa. In final clips, we see Ursula has convinced Triton to sign her scroll. Suddenly, the audience is filled with air blown tentacles, and on stage, we see a giant Ursula puppet, only from the waste up. We can see Ariel as a mermaid on her rock.

Ariel: Eric you’ve gotta get away from here!

Ursula has seen Ariel, and laughs

Ursula: So much for true love!

Eric glides on stage left, in what appears to be an old broken ship, from the audience’s point of vew, it seems he has stabbed Ursula. As Ursula screams and lighting fills the theatre, the stage goes black. When the lights come back on, Eric is laying at the bottom of Ariel’s rock, unconsious. With sad music playing, Ariel takes Eric’s hand, and holds it to her face. Then with her other hand, feels her tail and realizes she can never be with him. She begins to cry. Then, King Triton appears on the on-stage screen.

Triton: She really does love him, doesn't she, Sebastian?

Sebastian: Hmmm, it's like I always say, Your Majesty. Children got to be free to lead deir own lives.

Triton: Then I guess there's just one problem left.

Sebastian: And what's dat, Your Majesty?

Triton: How much I'm going to miss her.

Triton magically transforms Ariel into a human before our eyes. Her fins turn into legs. Ariel is now wearing a dress. Max, Eric's dog, barks, and Eric begins to stir.

Eric: Ariel?

Ariel: (joyously) Eric!

Eric leads Ariel off stage. Now, dancers begin a waltz of Part of Your World. Eventually, Ariel and Eric appear center stage in their wedding outfits. Chorus sings.

Chorus: Now we can Walk

now we can run

now we can stay all day in the sun-

Eric: Just you and me...

Ariel: And I can be

All: Part of Your World

They exchange a kiss. And the curtains close.

Cast Member: Thank you for joining us this afternoon. Please gather all your personal belongings and exit through the doors on your left. We hope you enjoyed the show, and have a great time at the Disney-MGM Studios.

I'm double posting, but I don't care. I just had to comment and say:

Holy Crackers! That is the best idea! You need to seriously think about sending that to the Disney Company! Oye! A+! I read it, and pictured it in my head, and it was amazing! If only, huh?

This show always felt too rushed. But I guess they aimed it at the little princess crowd and kept it short to match short attention spans.

Exactly! It's all about the target audiance...

It's a bummer that more people can't appreciate art and great technical wizardry. I could sit in that theater ALL DAY and watch that show - what with all the effects. The opening with the waterfall and laser "waves" overhead is simply awesome. Then add the very difficult blacklight puppet show, followed by large animatronic puppets - wow! I really don't care if the little "princesses" can't sit through the entire show. This isn't "their" park, in my opinion. Sure, MK shows can be short and sweet, but heck, American Adventure is 20 some minutes - why can't this one be?!?! Don't get me wrong, I'm not being an insensitive pr!ck, I just don't think MGM is the park to cater to the needs of the children.

Every park is geared to all audiences. You must accomodate for everyone. Children enjoy movies too. We may be going to MGM pumped over ToT and RnRC, whereas many children's dreams are to see Little Mermaid or BaTB. That's why Disney is unique, they cater to everyone.

I suspect the suits decided that the shorter the show, the more people they can move through it in a day, plus they will get even more little princess into the gift shop even quicker, bugging their parents to buy the replica costumes.

Hahahah - good point. Always gotta remember that the people making decisions are looking more toward the bottom line than what people really want.

Valid argument from Dave2822 also. Yes, the princesses want to see Ariel and her friends, but at the same time, they should be able to sit thru a 20 or 25 minute show to do so. If they love Ariel that much, they most likley watch the whole movie at home all the time, as do many children. There's 90 minutes alone, with no special effects or gimmicks to keep you entertained. I think today's society has ruined children's ability to be entertained without Video Games, Internet and TV - but we now call it "ADD" so casually --- but that's another soapbox I'll avoid right now. I just wish they didn't have to cram 25 minutes worth of ingenuity, creativity, special effects and wonderful theater art into 15 minutes.

With all the new technology out there, there is no reason this show can't be over the top in more effects. And especially since this attraction has been around for 13 years...it is time.

True, but look at everything else 'it's time' for at WDW. Everyone wants a rehab of the MK classics, PoTC, HM, etc. People are already talking about how AK needs more than their $100 m e-ticket that's on the way. Star Tours, Mermaid, B&TB, at MGM, and EPCOT's 25th on the horizons? Disney can't do all this at once.

Rehabs of MK classics are important, as is obviously finishing up EE. After that, it depends on how popular EE is to decide where to go next I think. If it thrusts AK in front of MGM in attendance, look for all of these little discussions about MGM adjustments to be talked about more often. But TWDC has it's 50th of DL, an opening of a new park overseas, a huge unique attraction on the way at AK, and yet is still pushing for more. We all just need to be patient.

There was never a "kiss the girl" scene in the show. (I spent many a year with a certain red crab...) There were plans for it when it opened and there were plans for it again recently when the show under went a little rehab.
About two years ago there was a massive plan for overhauling VOLM. The plans were amazing! New scenes, new puppets, new dialogue. Upper management was all for it, but then came back and said go ahead with the rehab but you are only getting about 1/4th of what you requested. As a result, all that was done was new seats in the theatre, repainting everything, Ursula got a make over (inside and out), Ariel got a new rock, minor dialogue changes and other changes that the audience wouldnt notice (like the order in which the puppeteers leave the stage). It was very upsetting....the show was going to be put in the right order...kiss the girl was going to be added...Ariel was going to be in her grotto with the face of the Eric statue (like in the movie)....
