Why all the negativity :(?
Because the OP had the audacity to suggest Disney creates a princess with some form of disability, overcoming an illness, or other form of setback that can be a source of encouragement to the thousands of children facing such struggles themselves.

As members of western civilization, such an idea is crossing a line for many of us here who are uncomfortable with something we cannot relate to ourselves. True princess role models should always be healthy, attractive, and 100% physically-abled, as that is how we value members of western society. Disney has no right to remind us of some perils out there in the real world.

Apparently dead parents are the only acceptable setback to be overcome in Disneytopia.

Oh my god I just saw there's an option for a "princess with diabetes". 2 questions...why is that even an option when diabetes can be prevented if you eat right? And 2...why not just bring in Wilford Brimley to fill that role? Although I doubt he'd be interested in wearing a dress.
Not all Diabetes Melitis can be prevented by eating right. Nice try though.

Wow, some people have interesting responses. o_O

Thank you for making this thread though, I think it would be a great idea.

How about the pro orca show princess?

Lol, a princess who people will grow to hate? That is an interesting idea. I like it, thinking outside of the box! Upon entering the theater, you think it's a normal set up. But then the old, wrinkly, funky-looking person turns out to be the hero, and the princess is actually the antagonist.

What kind of choices are these? A little inappropriate don't you think?

Inappropriate? I am confused. How is a princess who has to deal with normal human problems, and who isn't "perfect," innapropriate? One of the great things about these characters is that people, particularly little girls, admire them, and so sending a positive message is very important and should be pushed for in the future.

How is being overweight a positive message? Everyone, including little girls, should strive to be healthy. All a plus sized princess would do is either a. make overweight girls think it is a good thing, or b. make healthy girls think they should be overweight. Now, I understand how hard it is to lose weight, but giving girls a role model that is overweight from a young age will not help Americas obesity problem...

I think the key is to distinguish between naturally big or curvy and actually obese. There IS a difference. The former should not be made into something to be ashamed of, whereas the latter IS bad from a health standpoint.

This is true, but from an animation standpoint, how possible would this be? Even if it was done successfully, how would it be perceived?

Not that she's Disney but Fiona from Shrek was done 'ok'

It says "plus size." I wasn't reading too much into that but, in my head, I am not imagining a princess of bowling ball proportions. Rather, a princess who's slightly overweight, but whose overweightness only makes her look better. Healthy weight is probably the best option. And yes, although she isn't human, Fiona is a good example.

As much as you say overweight is bad, the current princesses are no better. They still have unhuman proportions. Tall legs, thin waists, that kind of stuff. It doesn't encourage a healthy appearance. I'd like to see any princess of realistic and healthy proportion.

And by the way, the storylines don't have to, and in some cases, shouldn't, revolve around these things. A princess can be "interested in STEM" but the story doesn't have to revolve around that. If these are just non-significant elements of the story, they can almost have a greater effect.
