Volcano Bay what is Universal thinking?

Both the Orlando Sentinal and Theme Park Tourist are reporting off site guests to the water park have to park in the regular parking lots and pay what is currently $20.00 and take a tram to the park. To make matters even worse they are reporting a capacity of 1.2 million quests a year. That is what Wet N Wild currently gets. Therefore the only conclusion I can come to is that this Volcana Bay is for on site guests and not others. Everyone seems to believe the Wet N Wild land is for more hotels and when they have their 10,000 to 15,000 hotel rooms they will not need locals to reach their.1.2 million a year capacity. What's next watch for Universal to raise their annual pass prices to match Disney once they build their 3rd gate and all those hotel rooms. Universal is clearly showing they only care about out of town tourists staying in their hotel rooms, just like WDW.

You're not paying to park at Volcano Bay, you're paying to park at Volcano Bay, CityWalk, and both parks. And like @flynnibus said, you pay at WnW and Aquatica as well, so there's nothing new at all. Think of it like parking in a garage in a downtown district, because that's really more the model at Universal.

The difference is that with all the new hotel rooms and capacity equal to what Wet N Wild currently has 1.2 million a year Universal is saying they don't want people that currently go to their water park. There is no other way to view this. Build a new and great water park. Use it to get more people to stay in their hotels and stay on site. That means for every new customer in one of their hotel rooms they want to lose one current customer.

To the OP's question - Universal is following the tried and true method of maximizing the spending of the guest that is in their attraction.

There is no expectation that a local with an AP should be a valued, sought after customer. They spend less than the once a year visitor that stays onsite.

Nothing new here other than a sense of entitlement. If you want the perks spend the money. Both Disney and Comcast are a business and they will invest millions of dollars expecting a return on that investment and run that business to maximize their return.

A thinly veiled attempt to paint this expansion in a negative light is expected from this poster. Just get over it and open your wallet if you want to be treated as a valued consumer either at Universal or WDW.

If you don't like they way they treat you vote with your dollars and just don"t. ........

So is it the pay to park that annoys you? Or the capacity?

Pay to park is an odd thing, but seems to be the general given at theme parks. As for the capacity, that is likely limited by the location.

It's always annoyed me that parks in Orlando charge for parking. Same with resort fees. Same with cable modem charge. All BS charges to inflate the actual price and I think it's very close to fraud. I love the people who just think bait and switch, hide fees are some sort fair businesses practice? For that matter I think advertised prices should include taxes, another BS scheme.

Don't really care since I'll be buying an AP soon so no parking fees.

Unless it becomes regulated they will never come clean.

The airline industry was required to quote fares with all fees and taxes and it is so much easier these days to compare fares. (Except for optional fees like luggage, so they can still hide some charges!)

Resort fees are ridiculous. If you're required to pay a $35 resort fee for valet, Internet, etc- then just make the price $35 higher. If it's mandatory it should just be in the price. This drives me insane- almost everywhere in Hawaii does this.
The reason these things exist is because of the popularity of hotel and airfare websites (Priceline, Travelocity, etc.) that compare and sell tickets/rooms. They take a portion of their room charge or airfare and call it a fee to have the cheapest rate and then show up at the top of the list. Everyone then has to play this stupid game or it will look like they're more expensive. The best way to fight this is for everyone to avoid these sites, stop giving them your business and do your own price comparisons making sure to add in all fees.

Like others have said, water parks around the country charge as much as $25 for parking, while some like Disney's offer parking for free. With Universal's circumstance of proximity to the theme parks, its unlikely they can offer free parking for the water park without it being easily abused by guests looking to visit the theme parks.

As for Universal's projected attendance, it may not be higher than Wet 'N Wild currently pulls in but what they will exceed in with this park is likely with the different ways to generate revenue by offering ways to enhance the guest experience, with food/drink, Cabanas, Express, etc.

This park will definitely bring in more than 1.2 million people. If its everything Universal is cracking it up to be, it's going to be a draw during the hot months and a nice add on for resort guests.

As much as the OP despises it. Unfortunately paying to park is just a new cost that has to be accounted for when you want to do things.

we all pay for parking at concerts, events, airports, lots of places.. its no fun, but its just the cost of leaving the house unfortunately

While the idea of a new waterpark is cool.
I hate that they are closing wet n wild, even if it was old and needing some updating.

The primary objection I have is the switch from wet n wild being more of a THRILL park and I get the sense that Volcano Bay is going to be more FAMILY/KID orientend

and waterparks never build enough speed slides that you go down without tubes or mats. Would love to see a looping waterslide and a competitor for the big slide at blizard beach
