Visiting resorts?

Yep. One of the things I always do is hop on the resort monorail line and just check out all of the three resorts on it. You can also sample the restaurants at each one as well.

The boat ride to/from Old Key West to Downtown Disney is especially pleasant, and you can even have a beer with you.

Walking is good too.
Beach/Yacht/Boardwalk/Swan/Dolphin are all waking distance from each other, as are Pop Century and Art of Animation.

Yep. That was pretty much a lot of my trip on my last visit this past week.

I visited the monorail resorts (CR, Poly, and GF) and WL on one day, AKL on another, and the Epcot resorts (BW, YC, and Beaches) on my checkout day with swimging by CSR on my way out for good measure all to check out the Christmas decorations and gift shops.

If you drive up, just let the security guard scan your MB. You're good to go. I heard the CSR guard refer to me as a "rover" to someone on his walkie talkie. Hilarious. Didn't bother me at all. Glad they take security seriously.

That's one of our favorite non-park activities! We did a hidden mickey hunt one year at the different resorts, which was really fun. We hadn't seen most of the resorts before that point. At holiday time we try to check out the different resorts too. It'll give you some ideas on where you want to stay next time!

We always spend a day or a few evenings resort hopping! We enjoy it a lot,

One note though, the only time I've been told I can't enter a resort I'm not staying at is if they have a famous VIP there at the time.

Yup. I never used to visit the hotels, but I've started to over the last few years. It's a great thing to do when you're thinking of new stuff to do. Only pain is if you're not staying at the hotel and driving in, they can be a pain about letting you in. You don't have to worry about this at a good amount of the resorts bc they are connected to the park (Contemporary, Poly, GF, BI, BC/YC)

In the past, all you had to do is mention the name of one of the restaurants.
Perhaps now it's getting harder, as the one guy mentioned having to show his magic band.

Did a holiday resort tour yesterday with the gf.

Went to Grand Floridian then Contemporary then Wilderness Lodge then AK Lodge. Never had a problem getting in or walking around.

Went over to Beach/Yacht and they said parking is only open to guest or confirmed dining reservations. Even after I told him that I just went to 4 resorts prior they wouldn't budge. They said it's blacked out until mid january.

Was pretty annoying considering all the other resorts we visited.

I didn't think about it til after but if anyone else tries there I would just say you are gonna get some ice cream at Beaches and Cream since you don't need a reservation for that.

You shouldn't have any problem resort hopping. As a local I go to numerous resorts during the holiday just to spend the afternoon or evening. Just tell them at the gate you are there to look at decorations and to hve a drink at the lounge. Show your drivers license and they let you right in. I've never shown my magic band. I don't always have it with me. I've never had a problem. Last weekend we started at grand Floridian. We took pictures in front of the tree and had drinks at the lounge. Then monorail to the contemporary. Spent 3 hours at the California grill lounge to watch fireworks then back to pick up our car.

In my case, I really had an ADR at Beaches and Cream. I did drive around to BW afterward. They did let me in to park in self-parking which is a LONG way from the front door.

We always spend one day of our holiday visiting resorts and having a drink at each - especially the monorail resorts at Christmas - beautiful decor and a cocktail or two at each!
