yesterday i replyed to a post concerning a virus and i mentioned that i got a weird email from mailer daemon saying my email attempt failed...
but i didnt email anyone
i dont know tim@aol.com or tom or whatever that guys name was

is my email crazy?? should i get a new account with a different server (i use excite.com now) could this kind of thing ruin my life?? or at least my computer

It's happening alot right now. Part of that new virus. Just don't open any attachments from sources you are not familair with or that have .exe type suffixes.

Your email is not crazy. This has happened to me alot.

YOUR name is in somebody's address book & thats how it was accessed.

Try this as the first listing in your address book:

! 000 Worm Alert

Its not a valid address & won't go thru. Everyone I know who has done this has had no further problems.

Contact everyone on your list...ask them to remove your name & run a virus scan. Its going to take some time but it will get cleared up. I now keep my address book empty .

Funny thing is that I am getting e-mails from people I don't know. Why would I be on their address book. I mean should I be concerned with doug@cia.org or steve@fbi.wanted.com?

okay so if i put that !!000 thingy in my address book that will stop the virus from spreading to my address book buddies

now how do i make those emails stop comming to me in the first place

You have to contact the people in your address book & have them remove you...then they have to do the same. Run a virus scan after cleaning out the books. Took me three months to get out of everybody's list! I had people sending me hate mail for trying to mail to their house & I never even heard of them.

2 years ago my sister sent me an infected e mail (not on purpose)...it spread to my BIL who is a cop...to the State Police Headquarters in Albany & a bank in Germany. We had cops calling trying to trace everything down! (OMG that was just too much for me). They finally traced it to a guy that went to school with my niece. (thats where the infected e mail originated in our family).


Now I scan all incoming & outgoing email...just in case.

4 Rules of Thumb:

-Don't open ANY attachements, don't even preview them at all, unless you know who they came from and you know they sent safe files
-Don't use Outlook, if you do, turn preview off and download recent patches and upgrades.
-Constantly run a firewall and virus detection program. The virust detection program will catch the virus, and if it get's through, the firewall will stop it from accessing the internet without your approval.
-Get a mac ;) j/k, No really, the last one is run a spam filter, there are many kinds out there, but I recomend a mix of both an address book one and one that goes through the mail itself.

funny you should mention that

Currently I have a sony vaio laptop that i got just before i entered college... close to 4 years now... needless to say, its OLD by computer standards (:brick: )

So anyways I want the 20" Imac but thats a lot of money!! and I've heard that macs arent upgradeable (although im pretty used to having a computer that isnt upgradeable)

um I guess im just wondering why you are so in love with macs and do ya think i should get one??

Well, it depends on your needs. While I usually recomend a Mac 100%, I admit, it's not for everyone. Many people like, and sometimes need to use, Windows, Linux, or others more than a Mac. Now, what I would do is look at the software offerings and see if what you do is in line of what they offer. If it fits your life then go for it.

As for upgrading, it's very hard to do it on the consumer line products. You can usually change the hard drive and add more ram, but it's hard otherwise to add a new grahpics card or even a processor. If you own a monitor already with the correct connectors, I'd say go with the low end G5. It offers a lot of expandability. But the iMac is a good choice too, but don't expect to upgrade lots. You can do it, but it's hard to upgrade them.

its that last part at the bottom that makes me nervous... isnt Novarg the name of the virus??

i think im going to change email services too because Im not emailing any of these people and it is VERY frustraiting!!

Well, the iApps are top noch, the OS is stable and user friendly, and you have very few viruses on Mac OS (and no, it's not just because not lots of people use Mac OS.) Also, all the iApps come pre-installed on all new computers. This includes iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, iCal, and Grageband.

and btw i ran my virus scanner and i had nothing bad on my system woohoo
just some dumb emails that annoyed me more than did any harm!!
