Vinylmations being phased out?

Are Vinylmations being phased out? When they first debuted and up until some time over a year ago, they were in every store, with a trading box at every register, but now they seem to be scarce. Were they not as successful as Disney hoped?

Personally I liked some of them, but hated having to blind purchase in hopes of getting the ones you wanted. $12 - $20 is a lot to drop on a small figurine that you may not even want.

I think the public finally woke up and realized that they were really not worth more than 5 bucks. My kids have a bunch of them but only because we would often find them in the nearby Disney Outlet for 2.95 a pop. Which seemed a more reasonable price than the 12 to 20 they tried to charge.

When Vinylmations first came out, I didn't like the idea of not being able to see which one you get. But once they introduced the trading boxes, the figures started to grow on me. If I got a figure I already owned or didn't like, I could trade it. Now that they've taken away the boxes from most locations, it's getting harder to justify adding to my collection (which thankfully is very small):D

It also would have helped if you could easily trade for better ones, but the trading was also mostly "blind" (although sometimes the CM would help you "cheat"), and everything in the trading boxes was usually just the same ones that nobody else wanted either.

Also on the other hand, they may not have ever sold well if the manufactured rarity wasn't there.

The only ones I liked were the EPCOT Center ones, the kinda stuff that no one else gets or understands unless you are an EPCOT Center fan. Also the Orlando Magic one in my avatar.

I've never been a big fan of them either. I do have a couple Christmas ones, they were kind of kind (and scented). I got these ones on clearance though.

I liked the idea, but personally never got any of them due to the high prices.

They're phasing out Vinylmation for Tsum Tsum. (Just a personal theory.) No, I don't get this trend either.

I don't like vinylmation either. I wish they would just sell plastic figures based on characters, rather than random crap that's shaped like Mickey. As for the retro Epcot stuff, it would be nice if they sold more of it as stickers, patches or decals, or even like props from the rides with the logos on it. How about a Horizons lunch box or bookbag? Spaceship Earth shaped cups? Imagination glass pyramid paper weights. Accurate ride vehicle toys. Anything but pins and plastic shaped like Mickey.

I mean, look at this. They made a cool, accurate toy back then. Now, they make this and this, a pin of a vinylmation? What are they thinking?

Random crap shaped like Mickey is an interesting description.

Never understood vinylmation or even where it came from. Much like Duffy, I think it was some lame attempt from some Disney exects to extract money from Innocent Disney fans.
At least Vinylmation had a fad to latch onto with the whole Munny craze. Duffy is just DIsney mistaking Japan's obsession with cute things for the character having universal appeal.

Agreed with that other post on blindboxing expensive things being an issue with them: Especially with Park Starz. I want that Dreamfinder, but 20 bucks is too much for luck.
