Villas at Wilderness Lodge

And many of you may know, my wife and I are planning a trip with my parents and her brother and mother for 2006. We looked into the Fort Wilderness Cabins, but aren't sure that is what we need.

What do you guys think of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge? I know it has a kitchenette which would be great for us. The only concern I have is that it is a Disney Vacation Club resort. Can you stay there if you aren't a member of the club?

 Sure you can! I haven't been in any of the rooms, but the entire complex is beautiful. I think DisneyPhD had something not too long ago on these, maybe you might want to pm her. Anyway check out what Deb's site has to say....

Sounds like you are talking about a 2 br or so. Everything above a studio has a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Only the studio has a "kitchenette" (half fridge, bar sink, microwave, and paper plates). The rest have full kitchens with real dishes, pots and pans, stove, oven, microwave, full fridge/freezer, table and chairs. There are many sites that list everthing they come with, it's more than I have in my kitchen!

Yes you can pay cash for vacation club resot rooms.
However, with 6 people you would need at leat a 2 Bedroom or 2 studios.
I don't know the prices, so the cabins may be a better deal for you.

The 2-bedroom villas would be wonderful--each couple can have a separate bedroom and bathroom.

At the Ft. Wilderness cabins, someone would have to sleep on a Murphy bed or bunks.

In a studio or 1-bedroom at the villas there is one bed and a pull-out sofa.

If everyone wants to sleep in a bed, you'll want the villas.

Be aware that there is a HUGE price difference between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge villas--more than double.

Cabins--$234-$339
2 Bedroom villa -- $555-$1015

We stayed a week in the Villas in 2003. We had a two bedroom villa, which I think is what they call a suite plus an attached studio. There were five of us. With a king size bed, two doubles, and the fold out couch for the kids, it was great...too much space actually, as we didn't use one bed nor the little kitchenette (as we had the full kitchen in the suite).

Our location and view were perfect. (I am at the stage where I really work hard to get the room, floor and view we want). We had a room overlooking the quiet pool and out over the lake and it was probably the nicest of all our vacations at WDW. The whole family loved it and it was great having the kitchen, though we only used it for breakfasts and late night snacks.

The bathrooms in the suite were huge and really nicely done.

I also liked having two balconies. So we could go on the balcony in the smaller room, whilst the kids slept on the fold out in the larger room or watched tv.

Finally, the lobby area and sitting rooms downstairs in the Villas are really wonderful and create a much more intimate environment than the public areas in the lodge. One sitting room is devoted to Walt's love of trains and includes some of the cars he used on his private railroad. The one he built in his back yard before there was a disneyland. The lodge is great though, so it was like having two hotels to hang around in instead of one.

Although I think with the kids now 12 and 10, we will probably stay at the Boardwalk again next year when we go- because there is much more for them to do and easier access to everything- I think the Wilderness Lodge Villas were excellent. However, like some others have said, they were not cheap. But everything is relative....I paid just about as much for a water view room at the boardwalk between Christmas and New Years as a I did for the suite at the Wilderness Lodge Villas the first week in January.

If you have any other questions about the villas, lodge or seeing WDW using the Villas as a base of operations, let me know.

My wife and I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge twice and love it. We thought this would be a nice place for the family to stay while Kelly and I can still enjoy what we love about staying at WDW. I am a bit concerned about the price. It is definitely an option I want to pursue, however.

The Villas at Wilderness Lodge are beautiful. We were there Feb 2004 and loved the resort. It has become our favorite.

If you are really interested in staying there you may want to consider renting points. It would far less expensive than renting from Disney directly.

Pardon my ignorance in this. DVC is the only aspect of Disney I know nothing about. How does a person go about renting points?
