just out of curiosity, which video game console do YOU think is best? i'm gonna be old school and say Super NES....i like the analog stick on the new consoles cuz it gives lots more freedom to programmers (although it can be heck for some RPGs that require precise jumping and such) but SNES has some of my favorite games (Castlevania IV and Earthworm Jim to name a few) PS2 would probably come in at a very close 2nd. N64 has a few other favorites of mine (Castlevania 64, CV: Legacy of Darkness, and Star Wars Ep. 1 Racer...don't know why i like that last one, but i just do)
so what's YOUR favorite console(s) and why?

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
PS2 here! For GTA: Vice City & Kingdom Hearts.. though I have not played with my PS2 in ages... :(

SNES old skewl? hahaa...damn im old...

As most of you already know, I collect video games..not just new ones..but old....so I have a fairly large assorment of different things from all eras of video gaming history...

I am going to base my selection on a few different factors::

Games
Playability
Comfort
Graphics (in contrast to the era it was in...meaning im not about to compare a 2600 to an xbox)
Sound (like above)
And replay value (which system do I see myself using in 5 years...keep in mind i STILL use my 2600)

So..it is my great pleasure and definatly controversial choice to select....

DREAMCAST!

Let me explain why...

At the time the system came out, it was untoppable in graphics as well as functionality. The "guts" inside a dreamcast are the exact same thing (only with less ram) as a NAOMI arcade board. Which..for those who know about geek game stuff..is the circuit board inside 90% of the top games of the era. (go to www.system16.com for more info on that). The only problem was sega marketed it HORRIBLY, and it didnt sell well.

Add to that, the fact that it runs on windows CE, and is VERY "hackable"..meaning i can run homemade games on it (which i do very frequently) without having to use a mod chip.

I would choose a NES..except that I went thru 5 of them in the last 15 years..they aren't built to last :(

I also picked Dreamcast. It was the first system I ever got the day it came out. Plus putting in Sonic Adventure that first night was just amazing.

Well I'll say the Playstation 2, as it's the most versatile game system out there. Capable of playing CD music, DVD movies, and with an amazing 8 YEAR'S WORTH of games out for it, and the fact that the PS2 is still a viable modern system, it's nearly impossible to find a system that offers more. Plus, just look at some of the major titles available:

Final Fantasy: Repeatedly has raised the standards and explored the capacity of a video game as a storytelling device. Epic, sprawling tales of human relationships and percevearance told alongside works of art and set to maddeningly catchy music.

Grand Theft Auto: A game of such ambition and scope that we haven't even begun to see the effect that its success is going to have on the industry and the design community. The level of effort, creativity, and passion put into these games is so high that Newsweek magazine referred to Vice City as "A work of art." Plus, it may well be the game that firmly cements video games as a mainstream passtime for adults as well as children and geeks.

Metal Gear Solid: Just as Final Fantasy explored the possibilites of an interactive work of fantasy fiction, Metal Gear Solid and its sequel the Sons of Liberty are games which blur the line between videogames and the cinema. The production values and visual impact of the MGS series is a hint of things to come.

Plus you've got the unmatched finesse and depth of the Gran Turismo racing series, The entire arcade fighting genre of Tekken and Street Fighter, and the miracle of copyright and liscensing permission, Kingdom Hearts.

If you own just one system, own the PS2.

 yeah, i'm feeling that way too...but when you look back at what's come out since SNES and how far the technology has come, then it is kind of old skewl :)

oh, i agree completely about GTA! omg, 3 and VC are SO incredible with their size and the details and all! i'm still amazed by it! and they can only get better! not all video games can engulf me for 6-7 hours straight (give or take), but GTA can! (sometimes The Sims can too) i think GTA3's gonna be the next game i buy for myself. i'm kind of afraid of how mom and dad's gonna react to it, but it's just a game, right? :animwink:

IT depends on your parents point of view
I for one would never let my children play GTA3 Children get sensitized to that kind of thing.
