Victoria and Albert's Surprise

Each trip to WDW our family (DW, DS & me) each get to choose a special restaurant or event. The next trip will be just DW & myself. My DW already picked Monsieur Paul’s. She challenged me to come up with something other than my usual Shula’s/Yachtsman lobster bisque, sirloin steak and creamed spinach. I tell her I just know what I like.

That said, this trip I told her I only wanted a jumbo turkey leg from the Fife and Drum Tavern. She blanched and said, “if that’s what you want ok, but I’ll just have a hot dog.”

Little does she know I scored a reservation to Victoria and Albert’s. I’ll keep it a secret for now and a few days before we leave, I’ll tell her to pack something nice. That will let the cat out of the bag.

I have been thinking about how to keep it a secret until we get there but I can’t come up with anything.

Have her sister pick out something and I pack it in my suitcase - bad idea on so many levels

Ship/pack something of hers myself – no matter what I pick it would be wrong

Have her buy something when we get there - $$$$$$$$$$

Does any one have any other ideas?

YOU Sir, are a serious Husband :). One deserving of respect :).

Now, if it will help? Link to the REAL DEDICATED V&A Website....

http://www.victoria-alberts.com/

V&A is probably the only "Dress Code Serious" STUNNING Restaurant at WDW. DW is going to catch on, when you pack a suit & tie :).
I fear the Feline will be out of the sack when she see's this - so break down when you pack bags? MY DW is sitting next to me.... we go to V&A every year. I asked her how SHE would have felt about a "100% surprise". Her answer: "I would have been terrified. I would want to pick my OWN outfit".

So just an opinion.... keep up the ruse, but drop it so that DW has enough TIME to pick up something NEW, locally - and can march in with head up, and happy :)

I agree with theguythatmakesswords. V&A is something extra special and I'd want to let DW go in style. Its great you want to surprise her but you making the reservation and going so different in your pick will surprise her enough. Keep her guessing for now, then make the announcement to her a week before you go to give her time to shop. DW's like to be surprised but in this case I think she would appreciate some notice. Pick something up for her to present to her at the table to add to the surprise.

Tell her you’re still TRYING to get V&A and suggest she pack something nice “just in case.” Then, voila, thanks to some Disney Magic (TM), you “happen” to score that V&A reservation. In some ways, that’s like an even better surprise

You may know this already, but at V&A your menu is pretty set - you get three choices per course. If your wife has any allergies or foods she does not eat, they need to know ahead of time in order to prepare the menu. So, hopefully, you can communicate to V&A any food issues your wife may have.

As for the clothing issue, that is a tough one. Me, I would tell my wife to pack something nice, just in case - although she would likely guess.

I know that if I were to select something and pack it, it would be all wrong. I also know that finding something on site would also be quite difficult (and expensive)

Probably not an easy way to surprise her. You are going to have to take a garment bag for your suit... I’d tell her ahead of time so she can take what she wants or go buy something. It’s super formal.

I told her the week before we left. She was happy about V&A bit and just a little bit angry about the short notice. I wrote a brief trip report if you are interested.
