I made a quick trip over to TTC today to renew my AP and figured I take a stroll thru MK while there. Upon leaving I stopped and noticed that they had what Im guessing is a veteran of some sorts and were going presenting of the American flag to her. In the many years as Ive gone there, this is the first time I've seen it. Is this a normal occurence? Or was this a special occasion?

It's been done for a long time too. I did it in 1998:

It's the Flag Retreat Ceremony which takes place at 5pm daily (although sometimes canceled for special situations). It is comprised of Disney Security,Main Street Daily Operations, and usually both the Main Street Phillharmonic and the Daper Dans (unless it is their day off). The ceremony usually includes a few children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, the Phillharmonic playing the Star Spangled Banner, and the band and Daper Dans singing God Bless America. The guest veteran and children are chosen at random and cannot be arranged. The unfortunate side of it is that I don't think the guest veteran actually gets to keep the flag.

This is a fantastic "event" that everyone IMO should experience. My boys were 2 of the 4 children picked to start off the crowd saying the Pledge of Allegiance and they will never forget it. The Veteran doesn't get to keep the flag but does however get other perks. A blogger on the allears site wrote a detailed description a few months ago. It was wonderful to watch and gave us great memories.
