Very large crane on site at Typhoon Lagoon - refurb or addition?

TL closed rather abruptly due to a "technical issue". Does anyone know what this issue was?

Are the cranes actually over by Crush N Gusher or the wave pool?
Was it last year or the year before when they brought in cranes for some repair work on the wave pool pumps? Weren't they similar in size?

I'm thinking this is repair work too. I seem to remember when they started building Crush N Gusher, they put up construction walls prior to the park's closing for it's winter rehab.

The cranes are behind Crush n Gusher.

It was last year they did the major refurb of the wave pool.

The rational skeptic in me is leaning toward a repair of some sort but the pixie dust snorting Disney fan is hoping for a FL size expansion of TL.

Heading for the great escape.
They will be putting in sunbeds and chairs for those that require a bit more room for their ample jaxi's. Either that or iy will be waterproof electric scooters to ensure full compliance with disabled legislation.

Holy confusing construction equipment, Batman. What do you think it means?

It means that the monstrous plot hatched by the evil Joker04.23 continues unabated. After disposing of Pleasure Island like so many plastic cups, he has moved on to Typhoon Lagoon.

Since Typhoon Lagoon shares it's backstory with the late Pleasure Island, it obviously must be dehabbed and converted to a family friendly venue.

As it consumes Down Trodden Disney, the Bold New Vision begins to expand like a pyroplastic flow.

:hammer:

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, i know its an old post but its not talking bout crush cos its already referring to it being built (found at http://www.studioscentral.com/board/index.php?showtopic=4187&mode=threaded):

- Typhoon Lagoon CMs, you should be getting the details on the new expansion adjacent to Crush where the "boneyard" is located and where the fairly new basketball court is located. The last I heard, this will become official in late August / early September. Construction should begin in November with the major work being done in the scheduled two month refurbishment.

The ride concept is one in which guests will grab a single rider float, and ride a conveyor to the top of the attraction. From there, guests will be dropped into the start pool where they will either paddle (hands and feet only) to the slide of their choice (three slide options), or they will be bounced into a slide by the continuing flow of riders behind them. Once riders go down the slide, they will be dumped into a secondary pool in which they have two slide options that they can either paddle to or be bumed into. Finally, guests will arrive at one of three final pools in which they may once again choose, or be bumped into, one of two slides. The final slide segments (of which there are three) feature themed, special componenets. One is a modified funnel drop, one is a ride through a themed structure by way of water-jets, and the other is half-pipe in which water-jets push riders up the sides of the half-pipe walls.

That's just a repost of a thread that was posted on WDWMagic two years ago:

It was posted by ReDis. I'll let other people here comment on just how reliable his information was. (Hint: he was banned from WDWMagic.) :lookaroun

That's a huge crane, and the rental fees on a crane of that size are enormous. Enormous enough that paying to keep it idle isn't worth it.

A crane of this size wouldn't simply be used to move some equipment around or raise pipe. Even the water main or main sewage pipe sections of a major city wouldn't require anything nearly this big.

That might be an upcoming expasion. There have been rumors about this.
Does anyone know about what is going on with the expansion?
I'm excited to know, even though Typhoon Lagoon is never open whenever I'm there (because of their annual refurbs).

A permit was posted for replacing the pumps at the shark reef. (see the Permits thread.) IDK how big those pumps are, but that could require a crane with a lot of reach and lifting power. There is another permit for replacing the bioler on the Crush 'n Gusher. No wonder the water was cold.

You beat me to it! Here are the recent TL permits:

Interactive Fountains: Work on Boatwash Filtration system
Crush 'n Gusher: Boiler Replacement
Carpentry work
Building and roofing work
Carpentry, electrical and plumbing work
Shark Reef: Pump replacement

I would venture to guess that the crane is for the Boiler Replacement and/or Shark Reef Pump Replacement. More likely the latter - pumps that size are HUGE.

Also, they haven't filed any other permits for TL, except for the minor carpentry and roof repairs, which means a crane is quite premature.

The rumor was a "toilet" slide.
