VBR history

I stayed there for the first time for our honeymoon and loved the place. But I want to figure out why DVC built VBR. Did they want a beach front property close to WDW? I mean it out in the middle of nowhere. Also what was the deal with selling the extra land off? Slow sales? Any one have pictures of the the place after the hurricane hit years ago? Thanx.

Btw we stayed in a 1bdr and loved that it was like OKW. Grounds were nice and clean. The pool and slide is one of Disneys best we think. On site eaters were lacking but a short drive down the road had some very good places to eat

Vero was the second DVC resort to open. At the time, Disney did not necessarily envision such a theme park-centric timeshare program. They thought they would be able to successfully build up locations all across the country and compete in the same timeshare marketplace as Marriott, Bluegreen, Wyndham, etc.

But yes, sales were extremely slow. There are less than a couple hundred rooms at the Vero resort and it took nearly 10 years to sell all of the points.

Disney quickly realized that it was better off focusing on the theme park resorts given greater demand and lower development cost (since they already own the land.)
