We have been booked for that weekend since JANUARY and even then not all the All-Stars were available. I'm not kidding it's insane :O

Probably, we'll be down there for it.
How much are you looking to spend? You can rent DVC points from either a private member, Daves or the rental store and spend around $200 or less a night. Plus Coronado Springs seems to be available for around the same price too.

That weekend you'll also see middle school and high school students in WDW for Festival Disney (band/orchestra/chorus competition), cheer competition(s), etc. Our Band and Chorus goes that weekend every year, and we reserve approx 50 rooms in late July/early August. This year when we reserved our rooms at Pop Century we got one of the last blocks available.

Occasionally we have been able to get a room through travel websites like Expedia or Orbitz even when the Disney website didn't have availability. Also, calling Disney can sometimes work out when we didn't see anything on the website.

It's not as bad as when groups like Pop Warner, Varsity, etc. are here. The groups for Festival Disney are much smaller in number usually. They compete in Studios on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday and then their awards ceremony is in Studios Saturday night. So other than Studios on Saturday, the small number of them are often spread throughout the 4 parks that you won't notice them to the point where they will be annoying.

May 4th should be fine. The music groups like ours, as well as the cheer groups, etc usually roll in on Wed evening, Thurs morning. If you are arriving on Sunday the 4th you will miss almost all of the youth groups.
And as @CaptainShortty mentioned, the music groups are USUALLY fairly well behaved kids. And most of them are not roaming around unsupervised. I know my kids aren't!

I have made the mistake of arriving during POP warner - NEVER AGAIN! Even worse I was staying at Sports with them. Drunk adults, screaming teenagers is not my idea of a vacation. Ironically, they did not effect park crowds but I could not sleep at night because they were up all night. I was moved to a better room after complaining 2 nights in a row.

You could try the Swan or Dolphin. They have decent specials sometimes, but factor in the resort fee and parking if need be. Still will be more than a value, but they are often less than the moderates.

Nope. Disney has figured out every previously known slow time and scheduled a marathon or something at that time.
Update: I was able to book at All Star Movies!!! I saw a spot this morning, and jumped on it. Unfortunately, being a pass holder only got me 5% off. I was told if either of the other All Stars or Pop opened, I would get 25% off. I thought this was a bit weird, but that's ok. I am going to keep my eyes open for those resorts to open for a better rate, but overall, I am just happy to have gotten what I did!! Yay me!
