Value Resort v. Moderate

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra money for a moderate resort like Port Orleans vs. one of the Value ones. My kids are 2, 4 and 6. Would they enjoy the value one more? I read the room sizes are the same whcih is my main concern. Any thoughts? Are the value resorts nice and clean?

Thanks for any input! This will be the kids first trip!

I heard that too. I also heard that there are some places in the All stars that are more quite than others and that if you ask them for a one of those rooms when you make your reservations they will accommodate you. So that is what I did....I will be able to tell you after the 22nd of June if that strategy worked or not.
Hope you get the quieter section you reserved!

Moderate rooms are larger. If you are looking for the most space I would say go for the cabins at fort wilderness. They aren't for people that want the theme pools and that type of thing, but they are the quietest option and the only one where you have a full kitchen for your own use in each cabin.

Frankly if I weren't able to get a cabin I would stay off-site. You can get much better rooms for the same price or equal rooms for a much lower price.

I see a few of you mentioned that the hotels have discounts, how do I go about finding out when those would be? We're planning either an August or September trip.

Discounts can pop up at any time... I suggest you go sign up at the disneymovierewards site and request free information about disneyworld... anything that might get you on their mailing list. We get random offers in the mail throughout the year but unfortunately they aren't transferable offers or I would send the last one we had...

In short keep you eye out... Also be on the look out for AP discounts, if you see one it might make it worth buying an AP for whoever is going to be renting the room, though I wouldn't count on it as the AP deals haven't been as generous lately as they used to be.

Great
Thank you everyone for all your valuable advice! I didn't realize Values had doubles so that might be a deciding factor since my husband and I are not small people. Lol. Started WW but may not lose enough by then to share a double. We stayed at Port Orleans once when we were dating and it was very nice. I can't wait to explore more of this site!

And thanks for all the welcomes! I'm so excited about planning this trip to surprise the kiddos!

Great job on WW but no matter how skinny you are doubles are just not meant for adults :)

allears.net gives great descriptions of all resorts!:)
Personally, I'd shell out a bit more for the moderate hotel. They have slides at the pools and the grounds are beautiful!:D
But, if you don't mind the atmosphere of a "motel" feeling, then it's ok. I enjoyed ALL STAR MUSIC and POP CENTURY. But, we're spoiled now after staying at a deluxe. Beware!;)
1st trips are always nice anyway you stay!:)
Welcome to our WORLD!:D

Your kids would prob like the theming at the values more but they are so noisy and very crowded. I felt like we were on top of other people plus the rooms are a lot smaller at the values than at a moderate. With 5 people, the extra space is welcomed. The pools at the moderates have slides, the values do not. AoA has music piped into the pools which seems pretty cool but not a sole reason to stay there.

We did the value resorts and bumped up to moderate for the reasons mentioned above. Also moderates have their own buses, which makes it easier to get on one to the parks, especially at the end of the evening going back home, too. Moderates also have covered bus stops and more than just one. Moderates also have quick service and sit down restaurants. We stayed at CSR (our second time there) this past August (5 of us) and were very comfy. It was quiet, clean and we felt very much at home and relaxed. I have stayed at 3/4 moderates and they are all winners in my book. :)

The two year old won't know the difference. The four and six year olds would probably prefer a Value. The mods are a little bit bigger, but the best part is that they're themes are a,little less garish than the Value ones.

Only you would know if it is "worth it" to you. But the kids will be much more impressed by anValue than they would be by the GF.

He meant "Fort Wilderness" not the Wilderness Lodge. The cabins are in Ft. Wilderness. The Wilderness Lodge does not have cabins.

It's an easy mistake to make. I've typed the wrong thing myself. :)

You guys are awesome with all this information! I read that Port Orleans have trundle beds but I don't recall that in Riverside when we stayed there. Do only certain ones have that?

thank you! Has anyone here had a child sleep on it and be comfortable? Thinking my 5 year old would want to use it and he is about 43 lbs. Or would it be better to just bring a twin air mattress? We'll be having our 2 1/2 year at the time sleep in a crib but incase she doesn't sleep well in it, we may have to put her in one of the beds which means one of her brothers would need to sleep on the trundle or air mattress.

Here's a picture that was posted by one of our Kingdom Konsultants a while back of the Murphy bed at POFQ

I have stayed at both the values and moderates and our preference the past few trips has been the moderates... POR & POFQ specifically. I see the mods being priced just right since we probably won't ever stay in a deluxe resort with those prices. For what you get at a moderate, it is so worth it. We love Port Orleans for the bigger rooms, queen beds, better pools, boat to DTD and gorgeous grounds with plenty of amenities like boat rentals, bike rentals, etc.. yeah, we may not use all of those but it is nice to have the option. All of the mods have a sit-down restaurant with the exception of French Quarter.

If you are deciding what the kids would like more, it is a toss up really. They may like the environment more at the values. Pop Century is our fave value resort. We have never had anything short of a great stay there all 4 times we have gone there.
