Value More Expensive Than Deluxe.

Weird but true.I grabbed a Thomas Cook brochure today and for two weeks staying at AoA in July it's just over £2000 ($3200) per person, yet staying for two weeks at AKL it's just under £2000 ($2800) Plus there's no free DDP at the value resort and free DDP ( 1 QS & 1 TS ) at AKL which is a saving of £1600 ( $2250 ) for a family of three. Even Albert Einstein would be scratching his head at this one.

No, Albert would not. Albert would recognize that the room you are renting at AoA is significantly larger with much more function than the box with a bed and a bathroom that you get at AKL. Albert would also understand that the AoA suites are very popular right now and selling at a premium where as AKL is the least popular deluxe resort in WDW.

It probably also has to do with exoected bookings.

Are the rooms that bad at AKL.I would have thought they would be of a good size & quality for a deluxe, even with a balcony, but there you go.:)

I would not call them bad at all. They are beautifully decorated and the view from a Savannah view room is out of this world, but at 344 square feet, the standard and Savannah view rooms are among the smallest deluxe rooms on property. A standard room at a value is around 260 square feet and an AoA suite is double that with 2 full bathrooms (one with a walk in shower), a mini kitchen, a master bedrom, living room, dining room table, etc

There is no question that AKL is a nicer resort, but the value suites at AoA are the best rooms Disney has from a functional standpoint until you start going to 1 and 2 bedrooms at the DVC resorts.

They are great. We did three weekend trips to WDW in the month of December. One was for 2 nights at Pop, another was for one night in a studio in Kidani, and one was for a night in an AoA suite. From a strictly functional standpoint the suite blew all the others away. We had so much more room, the mornings we easier because of the 2nd bathroom and having a door between myself and the kids was like a little slice of heaven.

Sure the over the top decor at the AoA can be a little harsh on the eyes for the average non-Disney nut, but your average kid will be in hog heaven.

I stayed in a AKV studio Labor Day 2011. Rented points so it came out to be the same price as a room at the Pop Century for 3 nights Room wise, it was probably the same as the Pop just with the AKV theming and a mini fridge (which the pop rooms might have, don't know).

My main grip with AKL/V was just how far it is from everything. Between waiting for a bus and then the bus ride itself to say MK or Epcot... it felt like it took for-ev-er to get anywhere (same going back).

@real mad hatter I was surprised as well when I saw this. I was considering booking a mini trip in the next couple of months, and when playing around w/ pricing, even with the Spring Discount, AoA was much more expensive then POR, CBR, and AKL. Also, I couldn't find anything other than a suite available there, and I thought the standard rooms had opened already, but I could be wrong. Personally, I think they look a little cheap, and I don't bother with suites when I'm vacationing no matter what the level of resort- the last thing I want to do is cook and clean on my WDW trip! The only reason I had checked it out was b/c I thought I could get a sweet deal for a spontaneous trip, and I sure was wrong!

On another note- that is a main reason I have avoided joining DVC- I would LOVE to join if they just offered a standard room, but I don't want to pay extra for suites I don't need/want to use.

You have great points I didn't think about- the second bathroom would be great!

There were 13 of us on our last trip this past July and we had two (yes, we may have cheated just a bit ;)) family suites at AoA. They were FANTASTIC!
We've stayed at the ones at ASMusic before and really enjoyed them, as well, but these were a cut above.
Two big thumbs up! ;) :)

We just made res for BCV but were looking at AoA since our daughter is going with us. We weren't sure if the BF would join her. So,we checked out prices. Sure the separate bedrooms and bathrooms would be great, but for the price we could get a huge bathroom and two beds at BCV. Besides, the only time we're in the room are for sleeping and showering! And, the BF isn't going. Saved money to pay for her flight down!;)

I agree with this, but wonder since that is the case, why not drop the rates at AK and make it a moderate, they would probably be more full that way.

I would think that it is because that it has all the amenities of a deluxe resort and then some. They can drop the price by putting the rooms on sale via promotions and then raise them back at any time they like.
