DVC members have been known to either rent their points out for a year when they know they're not going, or just sell their membership outright if they know they're not going to be at WDW as often as they originally thought, or if they need money for any other reason.
However, I'm pretty sure the moderators on this board frown on anyone using the forum to arrange or offer to buy sell or especially rent points, because if any sort of agreement went south that was started here, someone might claim they are somehow responsible and liable. There are other places you can find online that arrange point rentals or re-sales.

If you're interested in buying into DVC, you may do so direct from Disney or via the resales market.

Renting points is legitimate, and Disney specifically states that members are allowed to do that.
We got started in DVC by renting points. In fact, we were so psyched by our upcomning rental, that we were already owners by the time of our rental reservation!
Definitely follow the guidelines listed in the link from an above post. It's an agreement that is ultimately based on trust which Disney will do absolutely nothing to help adjudicate if things go south.
The two major boards that accept rental postings have a history of successful transactions, but there have been a couple of instances of problems. Neither board accepts any responsibility for the rental process.
