Has anyone split their wine pairing at V&A. Sounds like a lot of wine and I'd like to avoid getting too tipsy.

I don't know if you can split it, but for me, it was definitely too much. Seriously, I was three sheets to the wind. The next time, I will just get a bottle and split it. Maybe you can talk to the sommelier for a suggestion with your meal?

It is definitely a lot of wine. I can honestly say I enjoyed every pairing I have had. I really dont think you can split the pairing as each wine paired with course selection. Everyone in your party can customize there own meal, so the selection wont match whst every one is having.

i agree that unless you plan to order the same food for each course, the wine pairing can't be shared. but do be careful. afterwards, i couldn't find my way back to my hotel. and i was staying at the Grand Floridian.

I made the mistake of wearing 4 inch platform pumps to dinner when I went. I had to try so hard to look sober while I walked. Yeah, it's a lot of wine and I think it creeps up on you.

It is a good amount of wine, but if you have any sort of tolerance it is not going to make you "Drunkytown Drunk" (for those of you folllowing that thread).

Dinne at V&A is a time consuming event - take your time, don't rush, and enjoy the experience. For me, the pairing are just enough - just starting to feel the effects by the end of the cheese course. And then come coffee and dessert to wind down.

@Phonedave - how long would you estimate a meal takes? 2-2.5 hours??

Yep - thats about the time.

We started at 9:00 PM on the dot (they are punctual - if your reservation is at 9:00, you will be seated between 8:55 and 9:05 - not before, not after. We got back to our room at SSR (via a cab) just after midnight - so it was about 2:30 for us (maybe a bit less). We took our time, we didn't rush, but then we did not linger either. If we would have had an earlier reservation we might have lingered just a bit more (maybe 15 minutes total). They are very professional servers. You can expect your next course 5 minues or less from the time you finish the course before it. They watch, and let the kitchen know to fire the next course as you are starting to wrap up your current course.

We did chef's table a few years ago and split the wine pairings. In hindsight, we should have each gotten it - they really do a good job with pairing and since DW and I had different menus due to some food allergies and I can only imagine what wines might have paired with my food (my wife's was the one that got paired).

It IS a lot of wine, but dinner takes 2 hours so it's not that bad. It is amazing and I'm so glad I did the pairing. When you break it down 6 V&A glasses of wine is only really like 2- 2 1/2 glasses at home :inlove:

Thanks. This is the info I was hoping for

I don't know when you are going, but I think what can happen is that you're not hydrating yourself throughout the day while walking around the parks.(esp. in the summer with sweating) and that can make you tipsy quickly once you start drinking. (I think this is what happened to me.) Just drink a lot of water that day. :)

Our first time there we sat in the regular dining room, with the wine pairings, and our meal was just over 3 hours. Just enough wine and time. Earlier this year, we dined at the Chef's Table on our anniversary, and we were there for almost 4 hours. Still did the wine pairing, and it was almost too much. Still just a cab ride back to the BWV. :) Since we picked different dishes for most courses (to try other tastes!), we each did our own pairings, and shared a bit for each course that was different.

Our waiter stressed this. My wife said something jokingly like "you watch too closely, i feel bad sharing food." And the waiter said by all means share - he expects it. In fact on of the things that disappoints him the most is when two people both order the exact same menu.

Take your time (2-3 hours) and you'll be fine. One of the times we are there (the same night my wife and I became engaged) after dinner we went out on one of the balconies outside the lobby and danced to the music we heard the band playing. I was great and San easy way to work off our buzz (which for me was because she said, "yes").

Hydration and have a greasy lunch (yeah, know that sounds odd, but it works).

Absolutely! I'll also say that I've found a vitamin that works really well when combined with hydration to prevent a hangover (I get a nasty dizzy nauseous feeling). Pm me if you want the name, it's in amazon. A little pricey but well worth it.
