Seriously? What kind of room are you staying in at AKL?

Savannah.. we just find the animals are more unique

That’s not why I’m asking, although yes I can’t imagine making that choice.. my question is because of the price difference of Poly TPV and most AKL rooms, I’m curious what type of room would be offered that type of upgrade, especially given the fact that Poly doesn’t have a ton of theme park view rooms, and they typically sell out.

I wouldn't necessarily be concerned you missed a great opportunity.
While the "Theme Park View" at the Poly is undoubtably more expensive, the Savannah rooms at AKL are arguably more magical.
If if I had a friend or family member that was going to Disney World for the first and only time, I'd definitely choose your room over the one you passed up.
It's it's all a matter of taste.
And and you can't really go wrong either way.
