Utilidors

I can tell you what they look like. The description's been used before, so I don't remember who said it, but I'm giving you credit.

Go to your local Wal-mart. Go behind the store. That's what the utilidors look like.

Is there any pictures of the Utildors ?

Go here: http://www.disneypix.com/MagicKingdom/Utilidor/Utilidor4.htm

They're just hallways with concrete walls and a concrete floor - and TONS of Utilities (hence "Utilidors") overhead, as you can see. Of course, what you see above the ceiling is similar to what you'd see if you walked down the hall of any High School built in the last 10 years, with all the ceilings taken out (data cables, wire trays, steam & chilled water lines, and the WDW-specific trash tubes). I've been in them, on tours....and they're just not very exciting. And they're only called tunnels because they're covered with dirt - they are actually just a basement to the park.

always cracks me up that people are so interested in the utilidores. They are quite dull.

Though I did have fun talking about Napoleon Dynamite with Jasmine last night while walking to the bus.

It's all about the mystery and the "unattainable nature" of them. Ever been backstage on the set of a television show or at a radio station? boring as crapola to me since I've worked there. But to someone who's not used to spending their every waking moment trapped inside a studio, it's cool!

FYI: That's a little off. Costuming for CM's is no longer in the tunnels. It's right next to Westclock (The Bus Station) so that the CM's can cast zoom with their costumes.

EDIT: She got to it before me :)

So, does that mean that MK cm's can take their costumes home with them now? That would be nice. Either way, it sounds more convenient than it was. I loved working in the MK, but was slightly envious of my room mates who could skip a step and change at the apartment before leaving for work. Plus, I always hated costuming. They never had my size clean. I'm pretty tall (6 ft), so my pants were always high waters due to a shortage in pants long enough.

I'll never forget how excited I was to go into the utilidors for the first time. After my first day of training, I was sick of them already. Now I miss them. Wow, that makes me sound confused!

You're right. When people ask about the utilidors or backstage at WDW, I tell them to go behind their local Wal-Mart and check out the dumpsters for a very close approximation.

Unattainable my , you can pay something like $60 and get a half day "behind-the-scenes" tour that includes the Utilidors.

Having taken the tour a few years ago, don't expect to spend a ton of time behind the scenes, but it is pretty neat. And that is coming from a former CM (albeit an office building drone, so I only saw behind-the-scenes in the park when detailed to back-fill positions during busy seasons)

already did that... too much toilet paper in the men's lockeroom toilets... you should have seen the subs floating. :p :hammer:

By the way -- in case I haven't mentioned it lately -- BEST. SIGNATURE. EVER.
