ahhhh man. i thought the usps was going to take over the sponsorship. that is what my imagination conjured up while i was waiting for the thread to load.

that would be neat though, i know they could tie everything in. well i guess they could. i kknow that usps technology probably isnt the most fasinating thing in the world, but a lot of other things until disney gets a hold on it.

but good for him. nice detail on his cranium

Interesting,

I thought that SE was inspired by the Geodesic Architecture of BuckMinster Fuller ... my mistake, please disregard my thread verbiage ... it should read "USPS has issued a stamp which looks alot like spaceship earth but is actually techinically not anything related to SE".

In a related thread, WDW is no longer serving ice cream, instead they are importing "High Viscosity whipped iced milk and heavy cream with flavor".

Bucky did "invent" the geodesic dome type of structure/architecture if you don't count the Inuit (aka Eskimo) that were building igloos while Bucky's and my relatives were living in caves. A geodesic dome is half of a perfectly round sphere (ball). SE is not perfectly round as the tiles to make SE are of different sizes. SE sits on its pylons that support is 5,000,000 pound weight. I apologize if I offened you. Most people think SE is a geodesic dome, but are mistaken. Sorry.

Indeed. Epcot's Spaceship Earth is not a geodesic dome. It is a geosphere. Not a perfectly round sphere. But... spherical nonetheless. And... well... geodesic domes and geospheres share the same principal - at least exteriorly - consisting of a series of interlocked, intertwined hexagonal shapes with speical pentagon shapes placed in strategic points around the surface to create the rounded shape.

Back to the "issue" at hand (stamp... issue... it's a pun, sorta... my apologies)... This new stamp looks terrific! Very fitting for a man of such importance as Fuller! :sohappy:

If you are really interested in R. Buckminster Fuller check out www.bfi.org and it will give you all the information about Bucky. He was truly a genius.

P.S. There are also links on the site to the world's 10 biggest domes.

You had my hopes up really bad thinking that it was a SSE stamp. It's not at all...just has the guy on it who created it. Dang it, I would've been all over that if it did have SSE on it. Thanks for showing that though as it refer to Disney in some way, although not implied. Only those of us who know our Disney backgrounds would we know who he was.

Well, you can sort of see SSE if you look at his head and turn your head to the right a little and close one eye!

But really, what an honor for a man who helped create such a Disney icon attraction!
