So, how does that work to use our DVC points at DL??? Is it the normal 7 month or is it something different because it's in Cali and not Florida??? thanks all!

If you want to book the Grand Californian Villas, the normal 11/7 month windows apply.

If you want to book a hotel room at any of the 3 resorts, I believe you can do so as early as 11 months. Be warned that once points are used for a non-DVC destination like that, they are converted to "Reservation Points" can no longer be banked or used toward a DVC destination.

In other words, you can't book a hotel room at the Grand Californian at 11 months, and then try to switch to a villa at 7 month using the same points. Once the points are designated "Reservation Points", they can only be used for non-DVC stays.

Also, resale points purchased after March 20, 2011 cannot be used for any locations in the Disney Collection, which includes hotel rooms at the 3 DL resorts.

If you do wish to stay at VGC, make sure that you call right at the 7 month mark (if you're not an owner there). It isn't that big, and you might have to be flexible with your dates. We went last year in May, and we had to split our stay between a studio and a 1 bdr to get all 8 days. They are definitely nice!!!

Just to give you some perspective at how VGC can book up:
-our original plan was to FINALLY visit DLR in Feb. 2014, so the morning of July 8th, I was on the computer and booked a dedicated 2-bedroom for 5 nights at VGC.
-a month later, we added more points to our DVC membership, and were able to add on 2 more nights to our VGC reservation...out of curiosity, I checked the availability of a studio and a 1-bedroom...almost booked solid.
-by the end of August, the dedicated 2-bedroom category only had intermittent nights available...and as of today, nothing.
-when I called mid-September to cancel our VGC in favor of 8 nights in WDW at VGF, the DVC rep said, "Well, you just made someone's day, week, and year!"

The VGC only have a small amount of inventory and will go quickly during peak seasons (think holidays). Soooo, know when you'd like to go and be on the phone or internet at exactly 7 months out from your desired dates! It's not completely impossible, just be prepared!

Happy plannings!

We just stayed at vgc in September and our first night we had to use our points for a hotel room and then moved to a I bedroom villa for the remaining 6 nights.
As others have said be on the phone ASAP!
By the way it will be well worth your efforts.
Enjoy
