US Visa

Hi
Strange question, but does anybody know if we require a US Visa for our forthcoming trip :veryconfu

Basically, UK citizen with full passport, travelling to US on return air tickets (so far so good - as UK passport is accepted without US visa), but then we go on a Disney Cruise (ie out of the country and back again before we fly home).

Tried the US Embassy UK website, but not clear is need one as in and out of the US before finally flying back home.

Thanks
Stephen

You're correct in your assumptions re the Passport and Florida -
Firstly as long as your passport is recently issued and machine readable then you're OK,
Secondly, I'm assuming that you have no criminal convictions or you haven't previously been deported from the USA then, once again you're OK
The most important part I can only guess about - I would suggest that as the cruise is by Disney and sailing from American waters then you will be ok without a visa.

How have you booked your holiday - over the internet / phone or through a UK tour operator ? If its through a UK travel agent they will be able to tell you about Visa requirements. If not, why not go see one on a quite day and see if they can advise you.

Hi Captain and Happy New Year

I am generally a good boy, so no convictions. I have booked it all independently, so no travel agent to ask.

We all have new passports, so will check that they are the readable versions (still got them out after a trip to DLP came back on New Year Eve!)

Regards
Stephen

I recently returned from a similar trip and no visa was required in my passport when we got off the Disney Cruiseline so as long as you passport is machine readable you will be fine.

Being a UK citizen, you will use the Visa Waiver scheme on arrival by plane to the USA. That gives you 90 days stay in the US. When you leave the port for the cruise, you will retain the Visa Waiver form stapled into your passport, and on return to the USA, Immigration will see the Visa Waiver is still valid (assuming your cruise isnt for several months ;) ) and will grant you entry back to the USA. On leaving the USA to return to the UK, they will collect your Visa Waiver.

I had no problems when I did the 4 day cruise as far as Visa Requirements.... you shouldn't have any problems, since the ports of call are all EU Territories or Commonwealth Countries

there has been some snaffu in France regarding the visa requirement because the new required biometric passports were not ready in time, I dont know if UK has the same problem.

To clarify:
if your passport has been issued before october 26th 2005
AND is machine readable then you do NOT need a visa (granted you are citizen of one of the countries in the visa waiver program)

if your passport has been issued on or after october 26th 2005, is machine readable BUT is not biometric, then YOU DO need a visa.

if your passport has been issued on or after octoboer 26th 2005 and is biometric (it contains a RDIF chip) then you do NOT need a visa (granted you are citizen of one of the countries in the visa waiver program)
