US & IOA without Power

Most of IOA was with out power for closer to an hour, it was crazy. The guests were actually fairly understanding and not that bad with me. I dont think I had ever seen so many suits running around that park before.

Guess Orlando is getting the nasty weather we had last night...

God did we ever have bad storms Thursday night here. I woke up at 1:30 to the walls shaking and the sound of a train over my house for at least 3 minutes. I'm convinced there was at least one tornado in the air over us although if it was it didn't hit anything. But it was probably the scariest storm I've ever sat through outside of a hurricane.

Don't they have back up generators to kick in, what do you do in that situation and is there an explanation as to why this happened?

To my knowledge, most of the attractions themselves run on their own sets of generators. The park runs too much power to run off the cities power grid, so they essentially developed their own. However, just like when something goes wrong at the power station everything goes down, the same thing probably happened here. Further more, the back-up generators (unlike a city wide grid, where houses can have their own generators) are controlled by the same system that the primary power is controlled on. Power goes down to that one system... with it's back-up failing... everything goes down.

With weather as bad as it was in that area... it's kinda to be expected. Quite possible, several places that are suppose to have back-ups lost power completely.

While we're on the subject, I found an interesting tidbit: If the Hulk were connected directly to Orlando's main power grid, there would be a citywide brownout every time a train launched. (Or personal blackout, if you don't like these sort of rides. :lookaroun)

The weather was actually extremely nice on Friday, bright sun, and no rain, the weather was not the issue. Once all the power had gone out however sirens could be heard very loudly off in the distance so I dont know if something had happened that maybe cause the power to be shut off. I do know Florida Power was the one that had to come fix the problem.
