Upgrading unused tix after a price change

Hey there hi there ho there...
I've rec'd conflicting info about my question from different WDW agents. Maybe one of you have done something like this and can answer my question.

I purchased tickets to WDW earlier this year. I bought them a: before the most recent price change; and b: using some kind of promotion so we got one or two days free, I can't remember. In any event, they are 8 day tickets, no park hopping.

When we go back to WDW, there's a distinct possibility we'll be able to go back within a year (for the first time in quite a while, we're usually one 8-to-9 night trip every 2 to 3 years, also using DVC points to go to Hilton Head or elsewhere via RCI. So I'm considering upgrading the tickets to Gold Annual Passes. We're eligible being DVC members, and the time-window restrictions will not affect us.

If I bought 8 day tickets right now direct from WDW, 2 10+, 2 under-10s, they would be $1576.20. I honestly don't remember what I paid for them, but less than that but direct from Disney (I remember kicking myself because the next day tickets became available through work that would have saved me about $100 total)

If we bought gold Annual Passes now, it'd be $2338.76. A difference of $762.56.

If I opted to upgrade, would I be paying the difference between what I paid for my tickets THEN, or what those tickets are worth NOW?

Any help, as always, is appreciated.

As I understand it, if you just upgrade the tickets you will be getting back what you paid for them. However, if you use them and then upgrade them you should get the full, current value.

I have never personally done this and things might have changed, but I would do the upgrade say at the end of day 1 or 2 regardless.

If I understand your full situation, you bought tickets at the old rate. I think this would fall under the same scenario when a person buys discount tickets through a third party vendor. In order to get the "worth NOW" value, you must check in with those tickets to activate them at today's value. Said another way, if you were to call them on the phone or go to a ticket window (before going through the gate) Disney would only give you the credit for what you paid for them. ( i never have understood how they know what you paid for them). However, once you go through the gate (activating them) Disney will give you the full 8-day Base value for the ticket. You would pay the difference between TODAY's 8-Day Base MYW ticket and a Gold AP. Just go to Guest Relations for the exchange.

Glad your trips are within the window. The difference between Gold and Platinum is quit a bit:)

Yes Master Yoda, you were the one in Dec 2014 that helped me understand the "bridging the ticket" process when I did it at AK (Tickets at Work 7-day for cost of 4-day to a AP). Thank you again!!!
Based on recent reports, this process still stands today, or I should say yesterday, as it is Friday.... the day bad news is released by Disney:)
