Upgrading to a premier pass (with monthly payments)?

Last year I upgraded my premium Disneyland annual pass (which I was paying monthly payments on) to a premier pass. I assumed I would have to pay off my Disneyland pass in order to upgrade, so that's what I did about 4 months into my contract, and therefore I haven't had any payments for the past 8 months or so.

My premier pass is about to expire and I was planning to go back to monthly payments for Disneyland, however, it looks like I will be going to WDW in about 2 months. Again, the cost of upgrading to a premier is going to be less than buying a separate park hopper for WDW. The problem is, I don't want to have to pay $870 something outright to do this like I did last year.

So my question is, if you are paying monthly payments to one park, can you keep your monthly payment plan, and just pay the difference in cash to upgrade? In my case, the cost of the upgrade from a Disneyland premium to the premier pass would be about $223.

It's a good question and I've wondered how monthly payments work for Premium passes, especially in upgrade situations like you've mentioned. But sadly, I have no info for you. There's really not a lot of sources of good info on the particulars of specific passes like this out there. I recently was trying to get info on the monthly rate for renewals on Florida Resident passes and had no luck either.

Sorry I can't help. Just felt bad no one had replied.

I have the premier pass and I used to have the premium DL AP.

They did not allow monthly payments for the premier AP at all. I have asked and a friend of mine with the premier asked also

I did some more research and found conflicting information. On Disneyland's website (annual pass FAQs), it says if you have a Disneyland annual pass with monthly payments, you can continue paying monthly payments as long as you pay the upgrade difference off in full (which would be $223 in my case). But I don't know if that information only meant if you upgrade from one Disneyland pass to another, or if it included the premier pass.

I also read a report on a different message board where someone said they paid the $200 something to upgrade to premier and were still paying monthly payments on their Disneyland pass.

There seems to be no straight answer on this, and I am willing to bet even Disney guest services would be conflicted as to what the right answer is. I know every time I've had a question at the window having to do with my premier pass, it seems to take 2 or 3 people to figure it out because they don't have much experience with it.

I can ask again because I will be renewing soon. All I know is that when my friends and I asked for monthly payments, they said no.

I'm pretty sure the Premier pass has to be paid in full, unless something's changed since the last price increase.

I got my renewal letter in the mail today. It says that the premier pass is not eligible for monthly payments.

Well I finally have an answer to my own question, and thankfully you guys are not correct. ;) My premier pass expired a couple weeks ago and I'm going to WDW next week, so I stopped at Disneyland this evening to buy a new premier pass. They did in fact let me do monthly payments on the Disneyland portion and pay the difference to upgrade, just as I was hoping.

First, I paid $87 down for a new Disneyland premium pass. I'll have monthly payments of $46.84 for the next 12 months starting tomorrow to pay it off. Then I paid $227.60 to upgrade to the premier pass. So including the $46.84 I'll be charged tomorrow, it was only a total of $361.44 down to get the premier pass....way better than paying the whole $876.60 up front!

Ahh, crafty! That's good to know.

This is an old post so perhaps no one is monitoring this anymore but just in case...I too had this question, wondering if you could apply monthly payments on an annual pass toward a new Premier Passport. Here's the updated info as of 2015: you can continue your monthly payments toward your annual pass at Disneyland only, and then pay the lump sum of whatever the difference is for the Premier Passport. (In this case, it works out best if you are paying monthly payments on the most expensive AP option so you don't have to pay off more $ all at once) Note: I was told you can only do this at Disneyland as if you try upgrading an annual pass toward a Premier Passport in WDW, they will make you pay off the full amount of whatever your Disneyland AP was rather than allowing you to continue to make monthly payments toward your contract with Disneyland. So that's the updated scoop on why this worked for Laura, the original poster above! Also for anyone who is wondering, you cannot combine two passes - say if you have an AP with Disneyland and purchased a separate admission ticket for WDW - and have them both apply toward an upgrade toward the Premier Passport. You can only upgrade one or the other...

I wonder if you can do the reverse - upgrade a WDW annual pass to a Premier pass, pay the difference and keep the monthly payments for my WDW annual pass. Time to do some searching on WDW website...
