upgrading a ticket to an annual pass

Headed to Disney at the end of May and possibly going back for a week in September. My trip in May is 9 days so I'm getting a nine-day ticket. Is there any way for me to upgrade my ticket to an annual pass and how do I figure out how much extra will cost? Thank you.

You can upgrade it at any time while you're there. If you're getting a package with free dining, you should let them know so they can preserve that on your account. If you're getting discounted tickets, make sure you use them at least once before upgrading, that'll preserve the discount you got.

The price difference between what your MYW ticket cost and the AP plus sales tax is all you pay. If you have a discounted ticket, you pay the difference between the current gate price of the ticket and an AP.

If you are positive that you are going to upgrade to an AP do it right after you use it the first time. This way you can take advantage of any discounts on purchases or dining or tours during your trip

This is what I have been wondering about. We are planning on going in June and buying APs. I've been trying to figure out what is the best approach as to when to get the tickets. So, the best way is to get a MYW package to take advantage of any specials (if available) and then buy the AP after you have used your MYW tickets once so you can get AP benefits the rest of the trip?

Is that correct?

That is correct. But as a FYI when budgeting your AP's just know that something must have changed in the recent past so that when you upgrade your "package" tickets to the AP's you will only get the package value of the tickets towards the AP's. I know some people reported that as long as you use the ticket prior to upgrading then you get the gate price towards the upgrade, that is not the case or is no longer the case. I cannot speak to tickets purchased from a third party, only ones purchased from Disney in a package.

Make sure you do all the math in advance so you know what the upgrade cost will be. We did this just a few weeks ago at MK in guest relations on Main Street. I think we must have had a CM who was just learning. She made some mistakes in the process and tried to charge us about $600 over what I was expecting. We asked for someone else to double check the numbers and that's when the manager came over and showed her how to do it. If I had not done the math in advance I may have just paid what she first said... Good to get this done early in your trip as the AP discounts are pretty decent and you get access to memory maker so if you have purchased this already cancel it before you get there so you can get that money back.

If you purchased Memory Maker in advance do you have to cancel that before the first day? Or will Disney credit that back when you upgrade to AP's?

I think you have to cancel this before you go (and likely a certain number of days before you go), but maybe someone else can confirm this.
