Trip Report Upgrades, they really do happen!

Well, I'm here to report that upgrades still do exist. We just got back from a week at the Yacht Club.

Pulled up around 10:30am expecting our usual, don't unload the car, go check-in, park the car and hit the parks with luggage unload later in the evening when room is ready. Instead we pulled up and we were greeted immediately and told to follow as were going to the 5th floor concierge level for our check in. We were so excited as we have never stayed concierge level before. Our room wasn't ready so we headed off to the Studios. Late afternoon we received the text about our room and later that evening headed back to check out what view we got. We had booked a garden view so I assumed we get the same...nope, lagoon view looking straight at the lighthouse and Boardwalk. Watched Illuminations that night from our balcony and enjoyed our concierge level pampering the rest of the week. We have stayed on Disney property 8 times previously and never received an upgrade but boy did we hit the jackpot this trip. This was our first stay at the YC and this goes down as our best trip yet.

Are those rooms noisy? That's always my hesitation about pool and boardwalk views.

We were in room #5175, main entry was right below us. We didn't find the room noisy at all and we were close the lounge area.

The breakfast, snacks, hors d'oeuvres, bar and turn down service were just great. It was nice to come in from the parks and have a little something to snack on, grab a drink, etc. before going back out. You always felt a little special getting on the elevator and using your magic band to access the 5th floor. Cast members there all day and into the evening to always welcome you home!

Awesome!!!

We've been upgraded a few times over the last couple years. I think it just depends on how busy they are. Magic still happens!

Do DVC members ever get upgrades or is it not offered if you're staying in the Villas? I would LOVE to get upgraded for our 10yr anniversary.

Wow that's great! So you had a more than marvelous stay :) More info to share with us?

Okay, day two we started at AK, we had booked the Wild Africa Trek (first time, it was awesome, family loved it). Arrived about 20 minutes early to find out the other family that was going to be with us showed up really early and went on the trek ahead of us. It was just our family for the 9:30! They took loads of pictures. Then they recently had a new baby rhino born several weeks ago and just started introducing it to the safari and jeeps. Well as we sat down to eat, they quickly called us over and mom and baby were right there. I think our guides were as excited as us! :) Later in the day after our 3rd FP was over, we decided we'd try our hand at getting an additional FP and everybody agreed another Everest ride would be great. Headed to the kiosk only to find out no more FP available. :( But over the CM shoulders another asked "are they trying to get Everest?" She replied "yes" and he says "here, give them a little magic" and whad'ya know, he hands over a child swap ticket. Bingo, more magic! :joyfull:

Probably should have put all this in another thread but oh well.

Thanks for sharing! Last October we didn't do Wild Africa Trek. Maybe this October trip.... our opinion for AK was not that great! A lot of construction, some great rides, but with the animals it was bad. Looked like they all were asleep or in their cages :) Great that you see the Rhino and the kid rhino :)

Maybe writing a TR with pictures? :)
