I have reservations for a standard room at Wilderness Lodge in August. Is there a "standard" view that is good? Or should I upgrade? I do not want to spend too much more, in fact, I even wondered if when I get there that they would give me better view room. That happened to me this year at the Coronado Springs, I paid for a standard view and was given a water view without even asking. Just curious about what you would do? Thanks:xmas:

When I pondered the exact same thing, I decided to save the money and stay in the standard room. With this latest discount, I was able to upgrade from a standard view room at CBR to a standard view at Wilderness Lodge for only $506. I thought about upgrading to a better view room, but I figured what's the point? I'm staying in my dream resort for only 500 bucks more than I was going to pay, but if I upgraded to the next level up, that would be another 300 bucks or so. For me, I'm at a better resort and that's sufficient. I don't need to pay 300 bucks (for a 10 night stay) just to have a prettier view from the balcony. I figure that anything I want to see (such as the water pageant, for example), I can just leave my room, go downstairs and sit outside and see it and it doesn't cost me any extra. But that's just me. 30 bucks a night extra isn't worth it for me just to have a prettier view through my window, when I can see this stuff as I leave my room and walk through the grounds.

We stayed a Wilderness last year and also paid for a standard room. We had a view of the service road and parking that goes around the back of the lodge. It wasn't bad but for ourselves, we can't justify spending more money when we don't spend enough time in the room. It was a splurge for us just to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I guess you just have to weigh the cost vs the benefit. It is nice to have a great view but if you arent going to be in your room to enjoy it, why pay? The Lodge was so beautiful itself, I didnt miss the view.

Did anyone else stay in a standard view room? If so what exactly is the view? I hate to pay but then I think that since I am staying in a beautiful resort, why be stuck with looking at something not Disney-like!

We stay in the woods view rooms, and request the highest floor (6th). This year we had a view of the castle and could see the fireworks every night! It was so beautiful, for just a little bit more than the standard room.

This coming April will be our first time staying at Wilderness Lodge, so I can't speak from experience as to what the view is from a standard room. However, as to the second part of your post, regarding why stay in such a resort if you have an undisney-like view, the question I would pose back to you would be, are you going to spend your entire day looking out the window, or are you going to leave the room and experience those things firsthand? Speaking for myself, a good view is fine, but 30 bucks more a night isn't worth it when I could just go downstairs and sit outside and see it all at no extra charge. It may be nice to have a good view of the lagoon and the castle, but it's not that important to me since I can get on the boat and see the lagoon as we go across and see the castle as we enter the Magic Kingdom. Or, again, if I just want to sit and enjoy looking at it from the grounds, I can just leave my room for a while and take a walk around the grounds and see these things without paying any extra.
