Upgrade: where would YOU go??

Hi all, I'm planning my next trip to the World in september... I'm so excited!!

We'll book a 10 nights stay I think, but as I'll have extra money this time, I was thinking of upgrading in another hotel after our 6/7 nights at Coronado Springs Resort.

So, where would you go, between AK Lodge, Boardwalk, and Polynesian??

I didn't count WL as we have Sequoia Lodge in France and we're going to Grand Californian at DLR just the week before, nor did I choose Yacht&Beach Club and GF as we have similar hotels at Disneyland Resort Paris.

Please detail a bit your choice. I'd like the Polynesian but it seems a bit old for me, and I'm wondering if the amenities are up to date compared to other hotels...

I confess I'd like to really get the most from this upgrade, as I will not stay there for too long (3 nights max I think), so if it is too short to fully appreciate those hotels, I'll keep my money for a future trip :)

The Polynesian is great, it has the advantage of the monorail and the rooms have recently been updated. The volcano pool is cool, you can watch the fireworks from the beach.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge has great themeing but it relies on bus transportation which makes it a second choice for me. You should have a meal and visit there if you have not seen it.

I would pick the Boardwalk because it's a beautiful hotel. You have all the restaurants of the boardwalk to choose from, you can walk to Epcot or MGM or take the boats. It is a very convienent location.

Whatever you choose, have a great time! It's not like there's a wrong answer!

I would definately stay at the Boardwalk. I stayed there in june and we loved it! It is a very beautiful resort. The free upgrade to concierge didn't hurt either.

The Polynesian would be a good choice. The rooms were recently re done, its on the monorail, the pool is great (esp. for kids) and the atmosphere is beautiful. It is home to O'hana...a must on any of our trips. You can also access the TTC from the far end of the property to travel to other parks. The one problem I had was that you had to go outside to get to the restaurants, shops, etc. Not too bad in the day, but in the rain or at night it is a definate drawback.

The Boardwalk is also a beautiful Resort, close to EPCOT and many other things. The area is lovely and very modern.

While my first choice would have been the Wilderness Lodge I would have to say...Boardwalk would be your best choice.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

Thanks for your advices! I didn't say it in my first post, but I live in a city (Paris) and I think Boardwalk has a kind of urban feel to it, no? Not so much for views on the lagoon (and y&b club) but the other part of it... doesn't it feel a bit cramped there? And doesn't it feel a bit like the Yacht Club resort?

I say that because I'm looking of course for the best escape possible from my living home...and in that sense, I'm not sure about Boardwalk... but you are all enthusiastic about it and you're ture, Epcot is nearby!

So, I am hesitating more between Polynesian & AKL... can you still eat for reasonnable prices (ie value or moderate resorts) in those?

How far is the TTC from the Polynesian (when walking)??

Bonjour!! J'ai etudie les francais pour neuf ans et je les'adore.
(I hope that was somewhat right.)

Yes, the prices at the restaurants are pretty standard for all Resorts. The only big problem about Deluxes is that they do not offer a quick grab and go foodcourt area like the moderates and values. But they do have counter service areas with standard prices so you shouldn't ahve a problem. And remember, you can always eat at a Park.

And def. try 'Ohanas at the Polynesian for a dinner no matter where you will be staying. That is a definate escape!!

Have a great time!
A tout a l'heure.

The Boardwalk is very similar to our seashore resorts. A lot of fun. Not as sophisticated as Paris or NY (and it is not suppossed to be; the shore is where city folk go to relax in the summer...hang out & play games, eat & have fun) The Y&B Club Resorts are connected by a walkway to the Boardwalk area...it circles the lake, but the atmosphere changes as you walk around. Its much more lively on the Boardwalk side.

The TTC is just at the edge of the Poly's property. We stayed in Rappa Nui & all we did was walk a few hundred feet down a beautiful path & there it was. Each Resort has a "nice" restaurant, a moderate restaurant & a snack Bar. You can visit any Resort & sample the food at any of the restaurants.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Polynesian

The Polynesian is at the top of my list when reccomending resorts to others.

Most of the cozy yet tropical rooms provide spectaular views that can include the beach, marina, pool, monorail or gardens. No view will leave you unhappy. The resort, if I recall correctly, and someone plese correct me if I'm wrong...features: two outstanding resturaunts (Kona Kafe and O'hana) along with a snack bar location where they have some quick grab items or made-to-order food. All are centrally located in the Great Ceremonial House.

There are two pools at the Poly, a main themed pool and a "quiet pool." The Marina features renatable boats for a nice ride around Bay Lake or the Seven Seas Lagoon.

As for transportation, the TTC is a quick 5-10 minute walk from the Polynesian depending on your room location and how quickly you walk. The walk provides for easy access to Epcot via Monorail. The Monorail to MK and other MK resorts is just ouside the Great Ceremonial House on the 2nd floor. You can also walk to the Grand Floridian from the Polynesian. The only transportation issue I can think of here is getting to DD by bus. Most times I have tried this they (the busses) are very, very crowded and often appeared to be shared between quite a few hotels.

You can't go wrong with the Polynesian although you really can't go wrong with any Disney resort in my humble opinion.

If I had a choice between the three, I'd choose the Animal Kingdom Lodge, as it's a really cool place, in the spirit of the Wilderness Lodge, and with the added bonus of watching all of the animals from your hotel, it makes it a great choice.

However, if transportation is one of your main issues, I'd go with either Boardwalk or Polynesian. The Polynesian is right on the monorail line, and it's only a short distance from the Transportation & Ticket Center. Boardwalk has the boat that will take you to either MGM or Epcot so that's a plus for them.
