I found this update with a lot of good pics: http://www.mousesteps.com/extra-fea...opens-with-fence-splash-pad-still-being-built
And losing their kiddie pools (although that is an ADA issue). For safety all of the pools on property will eventually be getting fences. Can't say I'm a fan of it either but I definitely understand why they're doing it.
Climbing over a fence is a bit trashy for a deluxe resort, don't you think? It's a bit trashy for any resort...Oh we can still get over that fence.

Having a fence at a deluxe resort is trashy. If there's going to be a fence it should be at the cheapo resorts like art of animation where most of the trash is. Goes hand in hand there. Oops...
In Disney's defense, plenty of nice hotels have fenced in pools. Most pools I encountered on the West Coast were faced in.Having a fence at a deluxe resort is trashy. When we've been to DL and stayed at Grand Calif., I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly that you had to use your room key card to access the pool and get through the gates there all hours. This goes back at least a few years. Yeah, it'd look better without them but all it takes is one unfortunate (and irresponsible incident) to make gated pool access a company-wide thing. Does it eliminate any and all pool hopping or after hours use? Probably not, but it'd sure make it harder for folks to sue and win on a basis of negligence on the part of the company. I will miss having a quick late-night lap or two after a day at the parks, but I see why they are doing this. At least it isn't chain-link and a padlock.I think I remember back quite a while ago that Disney stated they were going to fence and all of the pools, especially at the deluxes in order to keep people from pool hopping. Their family has been quite a problem with people who aren't staying at the resorts just walking in and using the pools! Unless they put magic band readers at the gates or have someone there I don't know what difference is going to make.
When I visited DL in 2003, all pools were gated, so it's been that way for awhile. When we've been to DL and stayed at Grand Calif., I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly that you had to use your room key card to access the pool and get through the gates there all hours. Yes, I understand ... it's because we have grown into an "I will sue you for anything" society where people are no longer responsible for their actions or the actions of those whom they are responsible for caring for ... that in my opinion is the real issue ... and it's sad and it unfortunately changes the game for everyone. For safety all of the pools on property will eventually be getting fences.
