Update Wars

ok...a lot of you have been saying certain attractions (what i consider to be classic attractions) badly needs updating to fit in with the 21st century. me, personally? i think Disney was in perfect shape up until the Millenium Celebration...and don't get me wrong, i adored the MC, but everything Disney has either changed or updated since then has been such a huge let down for me!
Personally, i think they should stop completely redoing so called 'outdated' attrations, and start making some minor changes to better the attrations they DO have. which has been evident that they are do that to an extent with such rides as The Great Movie Ride, and adding a new tombstone on the outside of HM (sutle, i know, but still, it's an update) am i making sense?
let's take a look at Adventureland. sure, it's new and fresh looking...but think about it...which gave you a more magical feeling? i'm sure some of you are indifferent and like the original and the new version. but if you're ANYTHING at all like me, you would say the original was more magical. in my case, #1 i practically grew up with the original, and #2 it had the realistic feel/look. it almost seemed like you were really there, even though the buildings seemed 70ish, but they could've fixed that easily. instead they change the place to Agra'blah' which the new ride pushes the crowd together, they took out the trees in the middle of the place which makes it seem even hotter, and it has the look of a friggin cartoon, which, in my opinion, should be reserved for Fantasyland.
but, on to what i've been building up to. no one has said one word (as far as i know) about the resorts. and i'm not talking about the resorts like Caribbean Beach or Port Oleans...i'm talking about the ones that obvisously have had no work done on them since the 70's (maybe early 80's). sure Poly and GF have done some work on the outside, but dear Lord, look at the insides! now i'm one who loves old things, and i used to love the monorail resorts when i was a kid...but now i only see them as kind of eyesores. GF is probably the best looking one out of the three, Contemp coming in 2nd and poly in 3rd. and they have the strangest smell! if there's ANYTHING in WDW that needs an update, these resorts should be first on the list! and i'm not trying to start up an arguement here, but it's just how i feel.

I agree with that. I think some could use some minor updates. Nothing major though. I still like that Classic Disney Feel. It reminds me of my childhood, which is what made me fall in love with the place to begin with.:)

I agree with you, but resorts are harder to work with compared to a ride. When resorts go for renovation you lose booking room and customers, which in turn can really hurt business.

The Polynesian rooms were completely renovated in 1998 so they aren't in bad shape. Also the Grand Floridian was built in the late 80's so it doesn't quite need it yet. That resort also gets occasional touchups often since it is the "flagship" resort. As for the Contemporary...I think that it is in need of a renovation. That resort will probably be the next to get overhauled.

As long as they don't remove the mary blair mural...

The resort itself is fine...since it gets little updates as needed (since EVERYONE sees the area...resort guest or not)...the rooms are what need the updating.

The WDW attractions and resorts see a lot of heavy traffic and use, and fresh paint and refurbishing are part of necessary maintenance. I think Disney does a pretty good job of keeping things fresh. (I also think that the Polynesian, which I love, and the Contemporary, which I don't, need more in the way of renovation than just a quick surface tidying.)

That said, I also think there is a BIG difference between some fresh paint and an unnecessarily-PC makeover. Some of the older attractions like PoC, Small World, Peter Pan and CoP are charming just the way they are (or were), and should be freshly maintained in their original configuration. I feel that the addition of newer, more exciting rides and attractions is great - don't get me wrong! - but let's not "fix what ain't broke!":D
