Starting on Sunday April 11th, Disney will start accepting additional documentation for proof of Florida residency due to the Federal Real ID Act. The new act specifies that an individual can only hold a REAL ID driver license or a REAL ID identification card, but not both simultaneously. This affects people who reside both in Florida and another state.

Guests will need to provide a driver's license or ID card issued from another state government (out-of-state ID) or a non-US passport AND at least ONE of the following:

  • Proof of rent, mortgage, or ownership (deed, mortgage, residential lease)
  • Bills or policies (homeowner's or automobile insurance, utility bill)
  • Mail (financial intuitions - checking, savings, credit card; gov't mail - federal, state, county, or city gov't agencies)

Timeshare deeds are not accepted. No photocopies, faxed copies, or PO boxes. Bills and mail can be no more than two months old.

All existing forms of ID are still valid. These are being added on.

Alright.

I need help with this one.

Florida has just implemented a new law that requires even MORE than this just to renew your drivers license or ID.

Why would Disney ask for all of this if the FL is already making FL residents prove it?

Is there an official announcement from Disney about this? The information above seems a bit contradictory. "will start accepting additional documentation for proof..." & "provide a driver's license or ID card...AND at least ONE of the following..." & "All existing forms of ID are still valid"

Seems to say that an official ID is sufficient and also seems to say you have to have an official ID PLUS additional documentation. I looked at Disney's website an was unable to find anything at all about this.

Just curious as to where this information came from.

I don't think everyone's reading it quite the proper way.

This doesn't apply to full-year Florida Residents, who will have their normal licenses or State IDs.

This applies to people who reside in Florida only some of the year, like snowbirds who only live in Florida for the winter, and then go to their homes up north for the summer. Previously, those residents could get a Florida Resident ID to use while they're living in Florida, while still keeping their drivers license from their home state. This made things easier like check-cashing and other times when it helps to have a Florida ID within the state of Florida.
But apparently the new federal guidelines state that someone can hold a license/ID from only one state at a time. So those residents from up north will no longer be able to get their Florida ID cards, which is what Disney has required in the past as proof of residency.

So, now those part-time-Florida-Residents will have to show proof of who they are (their home out-of-state IDs) and proof that they currently live in Florida at least part-time (the listed items like rental agreements, utility bills, etc).

Again, this doesn't affect full-time Florida residents.

Thanks, Rob.

After re-reading,
the word "both" was not necessary and makes the sentence awkward.

Thanks.

Okay, I understand it now. As written it was a bit awkward. But still, where exactly does this announcement come from? What is the actual source for this? Was it Disney or someone reporting that Disney is planning to implement this? I am just curious. Thanks

This was an official internal announcement sent to any cast member who is involved in ticket sales. It has already been implimented.

Probably because you can move out of state and keep your Florida drivers license so a Florida license is not proof that you live in Florida.

OK sort of related, Does anyone know if you can opt to NOT get a REAL License/ID card in Florida?? I just got my Driver's license renewal for New York and it did give me the option to enroll or not. As I have my passport and dont need the REAL License/ID for anything, I am just going to keep the regular one. I wonder if you can keep one as regular and have the other be a REAL document? Marie

The REAL ID Act regulates the issuance of Driver's Licenses and State IDs. If Florida is in compliance with the law and is only issuing IDs under the regulations, then no, you will have no choice.

Keep in mind though, that if the REAL ID Act is allowed to go into effect (it keeps getting delayed), you will not be able to board an airplane or enter any Federal buildings without one.

Hey there, I did a quick Google search on the REAL ID Act and found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAL_ID_Act
Interesting information, which is a tad political, but the bottom line is that this is so controversial that a bunch of states are looking to either overthrow it or get it repealed. It will be intersting to see what happens, but this isnt meant to get into a political discussion, just shed a bit more light on the subject of REAL ID's. Hope this helps other people!!! Marie

Yeah I didn't want to delve too far into it.

However, personally, I seriously doubt it will go into effect without some major changes.
