Hi All,

This is my first post here, My family (Wife, and 2 kiddos 4 and 1.5) are going to WDW for a 2 night stay before our first cruise on the Wish.
I changed my resort from Coronado Springs(where my wife and I stayed once before we had kids) to Animal Kingdom Lodge as we are actually arriving on my 35th Birthday. Its a total bucket list stay for me!

I have Boma booked for breakfast at 10:20am and then Jiko as my birthday dinner at 6:50am.

1. Is it too much to do both in one day? ( We are going to MK as our only park the day after)

2. I am someone who is still recovering from some Covid anxiety and all that jazz but really want to go to Boma, but it looks super crowded? Is is that bad? Also is it better to go in the morning as our flight gets in at 630am to MCO from LAX.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to WDWMagic!! It's fine if that is what you want to do on a non park day. I have been to Boma numerous times and yes it can be crowded, but its definitely manageable. You have to get in line for the food and wait your turn around. If you just want pastries the second time up, I would just head to that area.

Have a great trip!

Thanks Pam I appreciate it? Is it less crowded right when it opens or later on around 1030? Also how is Jiko?

I wouldn't advise making a room request that would involve an upgrade. I would however make sure that you have it notated that it is your first time staying there. You honestly would have a better chance with that. I just book whatever view I really want and that is usually a savanna view.

Happy 35th birthday to you! Disney Wish and Disney World sound like an incredible and awesome celebration for you all. Sounds like you all will most definitely have a wonderful time together. I've always wanted to go on a cruise, but have not been yet. You all will have to tell me if you have a great time, which I'm sure you will. I've not stayed at the Coronado yet, but the Animal Kingdom is such a wonderful resort. Y'all will have a great time. Boma is such a wonderful place to have dinner. The food and service is so very good! Magic Kingdom for the day sounds so magical as well! Happy travels to you all and have fun!

I would make sure that you let them them know it is your first time visiting and that you are doing DCL after your stay.

I would also make it very clear in your reservation and at your in person check in that you are celebrating your 35th birthday. Then maybe inquire about a partial savannah view.

You’re going to LOVE AKL. Even if you don’t get a savanna view there are viewing decks within the resort with rocking chairs to sit and enjoy the view of the animals in the savanna. Check the “things to do” at the resort and catch a giraffe feeding time.

Dining, Boma is good and Jiko delicious. If you have time check out Sanaa, it is a family favorite.

And have a Happy birthday trip 🥳🎂

Boma gets pretty crowded. And I don't think it's too much for one day - just eat a light lunch lol. We usually do multiple table service restaurants a day bc we enjoy the food. It can be a lot but you can share at most places (not Boma bc it's a buffet).

I wouldn't worry too much about a savannah view room, there are plenty of viewing spots all around the hotel. You will probably want to visit all the different viewing locations to see everything on the savannahs, anyway. Don't miss visiting Community Hall and all the activities there, there are free coloring sheets and pool and foosball tables as well, and also the bead activities around the pool and resort are lots of fun, especially for the kids. There will be a recreation calendar at each resort - you didn't mention if you were staying at Kidani Village or Jambo House, there is so much to do at each resort, and remember there is a bus to ride from one to the other, and you can swim at either of the pools - I think Jambo House (where Boma and Jiko are) is the most spectacular structure, and it has the best gift shop, but Kidani Village has the better pool and it has Community Hall. You are going to have the best time!!
