Unused MYW Ticket

Hi all!

Wish I had thought to look for a message board like this BEFORE my trip!:brick:

Just got back from WDW. We bought 6-day base tickets through a friend of mine that works at ESPN (pretty good discount!) Well, at the last minute, my husband had a work conflict and couldn't join us. His ticket is sitting unused in the "travel" folder of my filing cabinet. No, it's not a no expiration ticket. Will it expire if it was never activated?

Also, my brother joined us at the last minute and got his 5-day base ticket through AAA. Seems that the 5-day base ticket at the gate was the same price. What gives? I thought AAA offered a discount?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure. Logically if it expires 14 days from date of first use (activation), then you shouldn't have to worry about it until it is activated. However I haven't had or seen any official confirmation of this.

I would think that it starts from the time you actually swipe your ticket. But I would call guest services to get the real scoop.

Tickets expire 14 days from the first day of use (or activation) so if it has not been used, it is still good.

Wish I could help you on AAA discount as well.

MYW tickets expire 14 days from FIRST USE.

If the ticket hasn't been used, its not about to expire until it is used.

Only some AAA offices give a discount on tickets.

I asked Guest Services about this on a recent trip, because we didn't use the 1-day base tickets on our room keys during our last trip (needed at least 1-day tickets to get free dining, but had leftover hopper days from other trips that we used instead). Guest Services confirmed that even though the tickets are attached to room keys for a particular trip, the ticket portion will not expire if it has never been activated.

To confirm...

All Magic Your Way Tickets expire 14 days from the date of first use. First Use occurs the first time a Magic Your Way ticket is used for any admission (Theme Park, Water Park, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island). The ticket is valid for that day of use and the next 13 calendar days.

Although Disney sells blocks of select Disney Ticket Media to AAA at wholesale prices, it is up the the discreation of each AAA regional office if they offer a discount for their members. Any discounts offered will vary from region to region and may vary based on the type and length of the ticket purchased. Select offices also may sell tickets to non-members, but will not be able to offer any discounts without a membership card.

I can't find confirmation either. Makes me wonder why I wouldn't go ahead and buy tickets NOW for a trip I plan to take in five years..
Because if you invested the money you would earn a greater return than the expected ticket price increases. Buying tickets NOW that you don't intend to use for several years is, in fact, loaning Disney money and not charging interest.

Eric, always the voice of reason.
It's true you are locking in the price, but is the price of a Disney ticket going up faster than what you can make by investing the money? Of course you have to subtract the tax implications on capitol gains... but now I'm just trying to get CleveRocks into doing a time-value study for me. I've seen his work on non-expiring tickets - excellent.

Tickets expire 14 days after the first day you use it, unless you purchased it with the "no expiration date." If you have a 1 day ticket only, you can still use that ticket whenever, but you cannot use it to book the MYW w/dine packages. They have no way in the system to book the dine package without adding a ticket to it. Hope this helps....
