When we next travel to WDW we will be taking the wifes mother. It will be her first visit and she is really looking forward to it.
However, for many years she has suffered from epilepsy brought on by flashing lights. Any thoughts as to which attractions should be avoided ???
Your help will make our holiday that bit better, thanks

If I remember rightly Voyage of the Little Mermaid has some lightening effects. Don't know if that counts as flashing lights.

Probably should avoid Fantasmic too.

Does this one count?

I'm not sure if this one counts but PotC has a little lightning in it. Behind the skeleton steering the ship. It's not to bad, but just thought I'd throw it in.:)

From what I understand about epilespy, you want to steer clear of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.

Yes, you could get a list of attractions to avoid from guesrt services upon entry. I went once with a group of special needs people ranging from blind people, deaf people a few people over the age of 80 & various other ailments. I went to guest services with the other group "chaperones" & got lists catered to the needs of all the different people in our group. VERY helpful.

Stay away from Buzz. Thousands of bright colors moving and jumping from everywhere, Star Tours has a lot of light movements which irritate the eye's retine for sure....AND obviously any 3D attraction.

This is too serious to answer here...as well-intentioned as everyone is, you're better off contacting Disney directly to see what they can do to accommodate you...they MUST have had experience with this before and can offer you advice.

Many thanks to all of you who answered my question, I think Tramps sound advice is worth an email direct to WDW. If I get help from Disney I'll post the result on this thread........just so that you know for future ref.

Further to my last post (and the thread starter) - I sent an email (June 8th) to WDW asking about the unsuitable rides. 2 days later I received their reply.
The definitive list from WDW includes :
MK - Haunted Mansion, Country Bear Jamboree, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear, Alien Encounter, Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, Snow Whites Scary Adventure, & Carousel Of Progress.
EPCOT - Universe Of Energy, Spaceship Earth, & Maelstrom (Norway)
MGM - Great Movie Ride, Doug Live, Tower Of Terror, RockNRoller Coaster, & Star Tours.
AK - Its Tough To Be A Bug, Dinosaur, Tarzan Theatre, & Lion King Theatre.
They also include the usual disclaimer - "use your best judgement and if unsure ask a cast member"

Many thanks to all of you who helped initially:king:

And Many thanks to WDW for a rapid response and their definitive list.:sohappy: :sohappy:

Very Conservative List

It would depend upon the severity of influence to triggers, but I would say that Disney's list is extremely conservative. Some of those listed attractions have no more flashing lights than you would see walking around downtown disney. Furthermore, that list is basically EVERYTHING worth seeing at disney. You may want to test some of the rides yourself and then know the proper times for her to close her eyes. For the haunted mansion, I am almost 100% certain they are refering to the lighting in the entrance hall. Easy to avoid -- and at the same time, you can then enjoy the attraction. Don't let in complete cancel your/her fun.
