Universal's new Conductor of the Day program

Universal Orlando's new "Conductor of the Day" program gives one child each day a chance to be a little more involved in the theme park experience. At the Islands of Adventure park, employees pick a child to be the "conductor" of the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley.

The child is given the important job of calling for passengers to board the trolley. They are given a trolley hat, red leather gloves, blue bandanna, and a "Sneetch" star sticker to make them look the part.

The child and their family ride in the front row of the trolley and are given a front of the line pass to use at one attraction in the parks.

Wait Wait Wait...How is this news?

Every Disney Attraction has several "magical moments."...

And Cast Members HAVE to do it...

EVERY DAY...

News? How is this?

Not this. When it comes to expense free Magic Moments, we're doing more than ever. Like I said, EVERY attraction and show HAS to do three or four each day.

Still not news.

At Universal it's more random and special. Universal doesn't have to give out a special certificate to every other guest that goes through the line. Wow moments are done at Universal very often and instead of some certifacate they usually give express passes to another attraction.

That's cool!! Do they only do it for kids?

Right, and some of Disney's forced magical moments were a bit...odd, like helping to open an outdoor food stand at MGM Studios, giving the kid a walkie talkie, etc....

I'm actually the creator Honorary Conductor of the Day...certainly wasn't expecting to see it discussed here, it actually came as a bit of a shock when I saw this thread . Yes, I was inspired by the Magical Moments over at Disney. I used to work Custodial at Epcot, and the Jungle Cruise, and absolutely loved having set interactions with kids...at IoA most attractions cater to older children, teens, and adults. I wanted to try to create something exciting for the younger crowd, since they can really only fully experience Seuss Landing. And yes, it's catered specifically to children. If I were to meet, lets say, an adult with special needs or maybe a real life Train Conductor, I would maybe make an exception, but so far, it's only young kids =)

I had a feeling someone who used to work at Disney was behind it, see my grouchy posts on how this isn't something new. (sorry. I Feel awful if I came across as knocking it.)

It is something Universal is getting better at, last time the Team Members were striking up conversation and being more friendly than all my two years of being a passholder some time ago.

Haha, no, you're fine, I wasn't offended at all. Its probably how I would have reacted in your shoes...If it had been created by some Uni bigwig who was trying to ripoff Disney, that would be lame....but I'm a Disney geek through and through, and I just wanted to spread some of that fun and joy (and dare I say Magic? No, that might be going a little far...) that I used to see every day over at the Mouse.

I'm glad you've been seeing good guest interaction at Universal! The first time I visited the park as a guest (about 3 years ago) every team member I saw either ignored me or was ridiculously rude. I think the park has improved leaps and bounds in that aspect!
