Universal's making fun of Disney in its ads again

Thanks to YouTube's subjecting us to unskippable ads, I now know that there is a commercial for Universal Orlando where the announcer says "Your vacation doesn't have to end with 'happily ever after'."

I thought we were past the days of "Fairy tales and pixie dust not quite your thing?".

They are building a brand new park you don't think they should pull in as many people as possible? Those people already travel to Orlando to go to a park so why not their park?
You seem to be a tad defensive of the mouse and I can assure you the mouse is capable of looking out for itself, it doesn't need gatekeeping.

a long time ago I took a marketing class and the teacher mentioned how the company that's the market leader will rarely mention its lessee competitors while those in lower end will ALWAYS compare themselves to number 1. Not sure if that still stands.
McDonald's didn't compare itself to BK
Coke didn't mention Pepsi
And wdw didn't compare itself to 6 flags.
😉

It still does. No need to when you're at the top. It's why you see Samsung go after Apple in ads and not vice versa.

I think there is a difference between tagging on you can extend your vacation to visit other parks vs see us instead of them. If you find the ad, post it here.

Ads are meant to lure or drive the consumer to you and away from your competitor. Uni's doing what they have to do to spark interest in their existing and upcoming new park. They are trying to set themselves apart from how Dis tries to cast themselves as being for that type of park goer. Theres nothing wrong with taking that approach. I get a different thrill and enjoyment from them both and will continue to visit both no matter what banter they use.

Just to throw it out there, but they've also been heavily using the closing phrase "It's more than magic, it's real". I think it's a funny dig, especially at a time when Disney is getting nothing but complaints about its operations, pricing strategy and lack of meaningful park investment.

That sounds like they're saying you should add on a Universal trip instead of avoiding Disney altogether. At least to me it does.

I enjoy both parks for what they bring. But this is normal to go after the leader. It is natural. That being said, considering Disney is at a point in their life where they are tripping over their own two feet there is never a better time for Universal to capitalize on this. Whether that is showing themselves to being the superior alternative to Disney or by making the parks a more enjoyable visit. Never before have they been nipping at the heels of Disney. 2022 attendance figures show this:

Magic Kingdom 17.1 million
Disneyland 16.8
Universal Studios Japan 12.3
Tokyo Disneyland 12.0
Islands of Adventure 11.0
DHS 10.9
Universal Orlando 10.75
Tokyo DisneySea 10.1
Epcot 10.0
Disneyland Paris 9.93
Animal Kingdom 9.02
California Adventure 9.0
Universal Hollywood 8.4

You've got Magic Kingdom as the sole reason Disney is ahead. Other than that the average attendance between the two Universal Orlando parks was 10.9. The other three Orlando Disney parks? 10 million. Even in California Universal Hollywood is nipping at the heels of California Adventure. I'd say Disney needs to find a way to enhance the guest experience, and fast. People tell them how to do it for free on here and they have a precedent of 1955 to about maybe 2010 or so as a good model on how to do it. It might serve them well to listen, because those can't be comfortable numbers to look at right now.
